  • Nat Butcher ?

I mentioned this in another thread but im still yet to see anything about him that makes me think he will make an impression in first grade. With our backrow stocks is there any place for him in our strongest 17 come 2019 ?

well he isnt a flashy type of player like a kikau or angus he is just a worker with a good offload. His best position is at lock but he may be too small for that position in first grade. I still think he can develop into a handy player

I thought it was his best game in FG to date. Was impressed with his performance.

He was strong with his runs and solid in defence.

Yeh second row isn't his best position by any means but he held up his edge well today.

He's a middle who's still a few seasons away from entering his peak. Give the kid some time.

I’m sure he is hoping he gets as many chances as Manu, Manu is in the better position as there is nobody there to challenge his position.

I'd have him in there over Matterson and Aubusson

I see him as a young Gallen type, minus the grubbiness and dickhead.

Give him 2 years to fill out and mature.

              He'll be a gun.

Agreed. I'm a big Butcher fan and believe he'll develop into an excellent rep standard player.

I've been telling my mates the same thing. He has really only had one proper pre season with the top squad, he had a shoulder reco at the end of 2016 and was basically in rehab until the start of the 2017 season. He will start to put some more bulk on his frame in the next couple of years and will turn into a very good NRL player. We need to remember that not all players hit the ground running like Victor Radley, some need more time to develop. Patience is the key with Butcher.

Yeah, I was really impressed with his defence yesterday. Watching the replay, it seemed to me either him or Radley were involved in every tackle.

Ans unlike Gallen, he also knows how to pass.

All he needs to do is follow Radley. Do what he does.

He was playing as an edge forward. Not his position.

Has a big future in the tricolours.

In fact, we have some quality youngsters that could be in the tricolours for many years to come.

                            Radley, Mitchell, Butcher, Collins...

I know im the odd one out with my opinion of Butcher and I hope you guys are right. In his appearances though I've not seen one carry that makes me think he has what it takes, the defense handles him with ease. His offload that he posessed in the 20's has not yet shown up in FG, however that is probably more to do with our coach. Plenty or most other backrowers that go on for an extensive FG career show something early on even if they are incosistent, I just have seen nothing from Butcher yet.
