Parramatta have signed the Sydney Roosters forward Shane Shackleton on a three-year deal.
The City Origin representative will join Parramatta in the 2010 season.
Eels coach Daniel Anderson said he was delighted to land the versatile second-rower.
"We're obviously very happy to have Shane on board for 2010 and beyond," Anderson said.
"He broke through for his first representative jumper this year and he'll certainly add some versatility and variety to our pack.
"What's more, we feel we've got a quality person, not just a quality player."
The 26-year-old has played 53 games for the Roosters since making his first-grade debut against Brisbane in 2005.
Acting Eels chief executive Andrew Hill said the signing of Shackleton is a vote of confidence in the team and the club as well as the direction in which both are heading.
"We're looking forward to Shane strengthening our team on and off the paddock," Hill said.
"It's important for the club to be able to attract players of Shane's calibre. We also look forward to continuing negotiations with other players for season 2010."
Parra have paid 300k+ a season for him.......we were never going to match it and I think we have better, younger guys in Cherro and Maubs to fill the back row next season, there was no point fighting with them over this one - not for a 26 year old that has only just started showing promise.
Risk big money on an ex yawnion Manly bloke who may never make the grade and then claim 'salary cap pressure' when it comes to letting Shack go.
Shack was one of the few blokes at our club who actually cared about the colours that he wore and he's been one of our best performers this year.
Typical of the Roosters, put years into developing a bloke into a regular first grader and valuable club member and then refuse to spend a little extra to keep them in order to get value from their investment.
But hey, if a 'big name' unexpectedly enters the market later this year expect the Roosters to come out firing, splashing fistfuls of dollars around.
I don't blame Shack for one moment for taking the money Parra offered him. Why should he be expected to take the crumbs left after our underperforming 'marquee' players have grabbed more than their fair share.
Yet another of my fave Roosters they've shown the door in recent years. And replaced with duds.

No real surprise and no great loss I am sorry. If all the news is right there has been a deal for Shack to sign for some time and he has waited till the first day when clubs don't get the final right of refusal to sign with parra.
I am not dirty of the club at all and neither should shack, lets be honest he was given a contract last list for 2009 based on a season long injury and 5 good games in 5 years for the club.
If the club did not give him a one year deal he would be going pretty much in-noticed at the jets and no NRL team would be offering him a 3 year deal.
