Most would know I have been a Shackleton fan for some time. I believe he was good for the club in a number of ways, on and off the field..

That being said, I am very happy with the clubs decision to let him go. I would be furious with management if we were paying Shane Shackleton $300 000 a year..

Like the Roosters were stupid enough to pay marquee money on long term contracts for Mason and O'Meley when they were both past their use by dates I suppose.

At least Shack will give 100% in every match he plays for Parra, which is more than anyone can say for the blokes we overpaid for.

As for Shack not wanting to be at the Roosters - that's pure bullshit. He will give his all for the rest of 2009 because that's the sort of bloke he is - a good club man.

All he's done is secure the best deal he could for himself and his young family. No one should be critising him for that, espec as the same money wasn't on offer from the Roosters, and probably not the length of deal either.

If we keep Myles and Cherrington, as well as get rid of Mason and O'Meley, and pick up Carney and David Williams and/or a very talented U20's centre, then the loss will not matter whatsoever.

        Nuuausala
        Friend
        Myles
        Sa
        Aubusson
        Anasta

        Aubusson
        Symonds
        Paea/Cherrington
        Hargreaves/Kennedy

That is still a bloody good pack, even without Shackleton and Fitzgibbon. Mostly homegrown, all very strong, skillful, and a good balance.

Frank-Paul still has a long way to go before he is considered our starting prop week in and week out IMO...

Spot on. People are like "oh but Shack isn't that good..." the point is the PRINCIPLE of what has happened, or so many years now.

Roosters have young talented 150K forward.

Forward gets little chance and a few injuries.

Instead of persisting, Roosters sign a 400K over the hill rep replacement.

Young forward begins to shine in limited opportunities while 400K rep player plays poorly.

Young forward leaves for bigger deal at another club.

Roosters are stuck with 400K loser while young talent leaves.

That can be spoken for...Shillington (O'Meley signed), Tupou (Mason signed), L'Estrange (J Aubusson signed), Hannant, Fa'aoso and Rose (Edmondson, Tonga and Hall signed - who we replaced the season after by Nutley, Beattie and Brown...), Soward (Anasta signed)...

Those are probably some of the worst. Look at how we degraded from 3 young talents in Hannant, Fa'aoso and Rose, to an ESL dud and two reserve graders, to two over-the-hill retirees and a JB Cup dud...in the space of three seasons.

Others were somewhat forced, like the signing of Brent Grose as a short-term replacement for Monaghan, and Waqa/Tuigamala as half-arsed replacements for Roberts, but really...had we not signed Mason, not only would Tupou still be here, but so would John Williams, a player who was IDEAL to replace Amos, he had pace, strength, and a lot of guts.

Terrible retention, no priorities at all. We just are signing the big name players in the hope of pulling off a lucky win.

Mack - when Mase was signed Shack was on the sidelines..............again !! Injured and prior to that he had shown what ???? 3 or 4 good games ?

I am happy to say he has performed well this season but to warrant a massive salary increase......not likely

This is true, but at least the kid is running hard every week, he tries things. I'm not as critical of him because he puts in. His best performances this year were when he was a starting prop...actually, every time he started, he played very well...

                Round 4 (Eels) - 13 runs, 102 metres, 1 offload
                Round 5 (Broncos) - 8 runs, 88 metres, 2 offloads 1 LB/try assist
                Round 6 (Warriors) - 12 runs, 92 metres, 2 offloads
                Round 7 (Dragons) - 19 runs, 85 metres, 7 offloads
                Round 8 (Sharks) - 15 runs, 132 metres, 3 offloads, 1 linebreak
                Round 9 (Storm) - 11 runs, 72 metres, 3 offloads

So in 6 matches starting in the front row for us, he has averaged 13 runs for 95 metres, with 18 offloads, 8 tackle breaks, a linebreak and a LB/try assist, as well as 20 tackles average, and 1 missed. Compare this to his statistics as an interchange forward, which is 6 games, averaging 6 runs for 47 metres, with 2 offloads, 4 tackle breaks, no linebreaks, no LB/try assists, 14 tackles average and 2 missed.

Surely Freddy and the coaching staff must see the HUGE different between the two. FPN has been statistically our most outstanding starting prop-forward this season, yet on the back of his 6 best performances of his career, he gets demoted to the bench where he has been playing relatively poorly?

I agree he is putting in. He has impressed me this year, because I thought he was useless...

I have also said if he doesn't start the game, he doesn't seem interested...

Not one of our forwards made 100m against Manly..

That is true, but maybe he is showing frustration. If you were the best starting prop in your team, and then suddenly you get shunted to the bench for a fat, overpaid prop forward with no semblance of form, who on the outer with the club, I would be frustrated too...

He's just starting to blossom. He'll play for NSW next year, wait and see.

Good luck to you Shack. With a young family, you did the best for yourself and them and I for one will miss seeing you wear RW&B.
As for Roosters management, you lot can go and get ...
More spoons coming your way because the trend of years continues unabated.

You'd think they'd learn after letting Tupou go.

Not saying he is, but he's another hard player they've let go and from what I've seen this year he's about the only forward who breaks the line regularly.
