That impulse buy has cost us plenty in terms of player losses - and I reckon we've lost more quality than we gained.

Yes, we've re-signed some of the younguns, but we also let some gooduns go.

The joke is when we needed to buy a quality centre, we've paid big bucks for some untried Manly import forward, who may or may not be worth the money.

Remember the "next best thing" Karl Filiga that Cronulla bought from the Dogs on an inflated contract. Last thing I heard he was looking to play park footy after taking the money and running from the Sharks, without giving anything in return.

The signings of O'meley and Mason have been regrettable. Although Mason I feel has been harshly treated considering he is coming back from the worse possible injury. O'meley was a massive mistake. I never liked his signing he was clearly past his best and slowing down 3 years ago.

In terms of losses Tupou, Shillington and Roberts. Tupou was a massive loss but I still don't think we would of matched the money he is getting at the sharks. A reported 1.6 million over 4 years. Shillo like wise got a massive deal, he was and still is very inconsistent. Amos took a good deal in England and was at the backend of his career.

The bloke I do regret losing is Ash Harrison. He was starting to come real good at the end of 07 and is in great form now.

The bloke we have signed from Manly isn't on the massive money as the blokes mentioned above are on. Like you I don't know if he will be a good buy.
But at least with Hargreaves we are buying a player who undoubtly has his best footy ahead of him. Looking forward I think we are headed in the right direction. We have retained our best young players and are looking to add other good young players to the squad.

this is the complexities of signatures.

I would not be suprised if shack would have stayed for less, question is, did the club offer anything reasonable, i would not be suprised if they only offered him a 1 season contract.

The thing i find stupid is, in 2008 he is given a 1 yr contract while injured to prove himself.

in 2009, each game he is showing what he is worth, a real hard worker and clubman. yet we let him go !

and another thing, we keep a player like Kouparitis.....................why? he is a fringe reserve grader AT BEST ! His value to the roosters side is nothing compared to that of shacks !

How much did parra offer ?
I'm hearing 300k, If that is the case then good riddance he is gone. We stayed loyal to him through his injury years for what!

This Manly forward has signed on apparantly 520K over 3 years... That money could have been spent on Shack...

Why sign Kouparitsas?? His contract money next year could have been used toward the Shack... Their have been MANY MANY wrong decisions all around and this has been going on for ages...

I hope you mean 520K over the total 3 years and not per year.

And you are spot on about kouparitsis, why sign him, he was not a neccesicty, panic signing more like it

                U on the Ganja marrn??
Ofcourse 520 over the 3 years .. Management might be bad BUT I wouldnt expect them to make that much of a blunder

On another note: Its not just about Shacks ability, its his desire, passion & determination that is so obvious when he plays.. We need at least some players displaying these qualities.. We have only a couple now and Shack is one of them..

It's believed Shackleton, who made his representative debut for City Origin last month, signed for around $170,000 a season.

Reasonable... Im sure he would have stayed if we had offered a ball park figure

Let's see what happens with K HUNT

173k a year is not that much for a FG player. Especially one showing the potenial that this 'manly forward' has shown.

It is when someone like Shackleton signs for roughly that amount at Parra:

Thats a f--king disgrace if true. Shack is not worth $300,000 per season. But anything from $200,000 or below should not have been a problem. We are truely in trouble when either

                          a) We offered him around the same and he decided to go anyway

                          or

                          b) The idiots at the club decided not to go anywhere near matching the offer

In actual fact that is MORE than enough. No first grade player is worth more than 200K. No one.

If he agreed a month ago, you can not doubt his effort for our team still..

All these figures are pure speculation. Getting knickers in a knot about figures we do not know is not worth it...
