Whilst it's nice to show faith in Friend, we need to ask ourselves whether he will be the answer to our dummy half woes. The player wearing the no.9 these days must be dynamic as well as a good footballer. Friend has the football skills but does he have the speed?

He is still young which is in his favour, but can he find a few extra yards of pace?
Increasing acceleration & speed should not be a problem. He is not a natural flyer, but if he was he'd be a skinny kid who wouldn't do all the dirty in the middle.

Anyway, it's not like the best hookers are flyers anyway, think Friend, Smith, Ennis. I'd rather Jake complete effective tackles and play smart around the ruck. Quick play of the ball gets you metres out of dummy-half not the hookers speed.

Remember, physical freaks aside, it takes a player to get into his mid-twenties to know what weight/strength/power/bodyfat/endurance is best suited for them. That's why i just hope that he is our stable hooker, so the combination between him/Pearce/Forwards/Fullback will develop and get him comfortable so that when he reaches his physical potential, he's confident about his playing ability and combinations.

Also, i think we should be reviewing our attacking structure a bit more. All succesful teams (especially in the opp. 20) involve their dummy-half as a playmaker who sucks the defenders in before giving off the pass.
That's just the tip of the iceberg too!

Stick with the young ones, go through the tough times, reap the fruition in the long run!

    PS

I'm not even that concerned with winning this year, i'd rather see combinations develop and our young players show us what they are made out of.
