  • John Peard

Just asking for my mum whose ex hubby used to work with john back in the day. Last she knew he wasn't in the best of health.

Is he still going strong or is he playing the greatest game of all with the man upstairs nowdays?

      Still going.

But struggling. Though he has been for a while.

We were walking up the stairs of the SFS behind him last season. All of a sudden he falls backwards and screams, "I'm Gone!". Luckily my mate caught him before he hit the stairs.

johnny peard and myself both had strokes on the same day! we run in6to each other from time to time around the shire, peardie has always been a big drinker he hasn't become a smaller one so his re3covery hasnt been as good as it might have been, he walks with the aid of a stick and speech a little impaired but as far as i know hes still kicking! every so often the roosters drag him out rfor a special occasion ! last time i formally saw him i sat down with a beer and he introduced me to johnny raper and changa langlands, that was an amazing feeling!raper accepted me as pearce told him id play4ed with newtown!

That's a great story Stevie J. I was lucky enough in the 80s to have a drink for a couple of hours with Artie and Laurie Nicholls. The publican who knew them was a good bloke and knew I loved the chooks so he invited me to join them. Both of them were really nice and I'll take that memory to the grave with me.

I went to Peardie's benefit night at the Sharks club a few years ago- men of league organised it - raising money for him to go the US for a medical procedure for his stroke - went to the benefit night for Russell Fairfax too which was held at the Easts Club as Russell was in a bad financial way as a result of all those brain tumour operations he required ( 8 or so I think) - another men of league organised one -

If you have some spare cash join and donate to the men of league - people might forget players from those times were not paid a lot and had full time jobs - MOL help out not only ex players from around the country but others involved in the game over the years as well.
