  • All year it has been and the last couple of weeks it really has been!

ALL YEAR IT HAS BEEN SHITTING ME BUT ON SATURDAY NIGHT I WAS PULLING MY HAIR OUT!!!

I can't count once against the sharks that pearce / anasta put in a attacking grubber kick.
Not once on the last tackle did they run to the line and put in a grubber into the in goal and attempt to either score or next best thing force a line drop out... Instead those crap cross field bombs every time

Don't get me wrong I think pearce is and will be a great halfback, but if you look at all the beat halves in the comp they will always throw in a couple 5th tackle grubbers sometimes more often then the cross field bomb.
I dunno if he has been told to just cross field bomb or it's he's decision but we never force repeat sets with cross field bombs..

woah... calm your house down. we won!

agree though, Pearce still has to develop that patience in order to build pressure. Anasta for some reason has never had the grubber kick either..

Haha yeah I know , I was happy we won..
Though if we were playing a better side I don't no if we would have, your exactly right that Pearce hasn't learnt how to build pressure yet and I hope someone teaches him in the off season.. I think we played ok but still lacked a good finish I think this is a big problem we have had all season.. With either a crap kick sometimes I wouldn't even call it a cross field bomb because at times the wingers catch the ball in goal UN contested they have been that bad or a dropped ball that we don't even get to the last..

I think a few grubbers forcing a repeat set last week we would have won alot more comfortable..

You're right, and the funny thing is (im not 100% sure though) - I swear I saw Pearce put a grubber kick in during SOO.

Funnily enough, how many times this year (and quite a few times last year) have we put through an attacking grubber kick, only to have the opposition scoop the ball up and run the length and score.
I reckon we concede more tries from our own attacking grubbers, than we actually score !

I've said it before and am doing it again...it's like they don't know what a grubber kick is and a repeat set is or is it that Smith doesn't know about it or doesn't like them yet the Storm use it effectively as well as any other top team in the comp. We put bombs that are often caught by the other teams defense. I can't work out why we aren't as smart as the other teams.

              Brian Smith.

You can see our halves instincts telling them to grubber. Pearce for Carney's try against the Dogs last year. Pearce after an offload for Gardner to gift Friend a try on Saturday night. Anasta for Graham against the Eels last year, when we had the game won.

Basically, when they have to make a split decision on impulse, or the game plan has worked so they can have a crack, they grubber. When they get the ball on the last and it's all structured, they stick to Smith's master plan - bomb to our slow, aerially challenged (bar Perrett) wingers. I mean honestly, our biggest weapon in the air is Braith Anasta.

It is poor coaching, nothing else. They all know how to grubber. They are taught to chase tries by putting in bomb after bomb after bomb.

Teams picking up the grubber and running the length has more to do about the chase and the position you kick the ball from.

I don't rate Anasta but I actually think his short kicking game is pretty good.

Did Garnder's grubber count as a try assist for us?

Exactly Dr. Pierce. You saved me the trouble of writing it. In the past few weeks our team has seemed considerably smarter although there is still plenty of room for improvement.

I would rather us run it thatn put a grubber kick through I can recall at least twice this season where we have put in a gruber near our line only to see the opposition pick it up and run the length of the field and score Sandow and Barba spring to mind In fact had at not been for a freak ankle tap by myles andf a superb follwing chase from Masoe Barba would have doe it twice in one match Let them run it or put up a cross field bomb

Just on that soemthing which really shits me is seeing a bomb go up and the fullbacl or whoever catch it in goal they land with the oither tryline in front of their eyes yet are not allowed to attempt to run the length of the field Instead they have to run to the 1/4 to tap it I would like to see azn option in the rules allwoing players toeither un or take a tap If you run and are tackled before the 20 metre mark likewise if you run and losse it before the 20 it goes back for the tap Once you are past the twenty its play on and anything goes It shits me becuase we are loosing something that can be very exciting to see

Yeah I agree I can recall a few times our grubbers have led to opposition 100m tries but is that because we arent training for the grubber to be pin point accurate behind the defence in the in goal with a good chase..
The reason why these tries are happening is because the grubbers are rubbish and straight in the arms of the fullback, yes the storm use it perfect yet they don't concede 100m tries off grubbers.. I think to force pressure and get repeat sets there isn't a better attacking option then a grubber as long as there is a good chase it will work nearly everytime..

See vasco, that was as a result from the only bloody attacking grubber by us all game, much more effective than bombing and giving them an extra 20 as we normally do

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks constantly cross field bombs are useless, once in a while only to perrett would it be ok...
I don't understand how us as fans of the game can clearly see it just ain't working but the head coach and players and everyone else involved in the game plan and structure of the team can't...

Attacking last tackle options is something ( along with a he'll of alot of other things ) needs lots of work over the off season...

I dunno the stats but I'm 100 % sure we would have to be the team who has forced the least amount of drop outs..
