i'm all for the NRL to blood new refs but it should be done in the trials not in the back end of the season, the standard of the decisions in our game against the sharks was horrendus.

I hear what you are saying, but it is not as if he has been given the Manly Melbourne game or any other game that will have a bearing on the finals. I guess the only other game he might have gotten would have been the Canberra vs. Penrith game.

Tries were scored against us all year from obstructions and a whole lot of other things that should've been pulled up but weren't...and things that were quite legal and were pulled up.

We got one back, one.

It's the Jack Gibson Cup...no rookie refs should've been appointed to this game out of respect for the occasion.

He should've been appointed to 15 v 13 or 14 or some such other game.

I don't see what's wrong with it, the two points are largely irrelevant and the refs have to make their debut some time even if they do trials. Every club debuts young players when their season is over why can't the refs?

Wasn't he the one who gave the try from the Gallen knock on ???

If so, can we call him impartial.... he screwed up for BOTH sides

A lot about the performance of the rookie ref depends on the performance and attitude of the more experienced(?) ref he is partnered with.

Steve Lyons and the rookie ref last weekend did not work. Both of them did not referee to first grade standard. Lyons did not set a good example for the rookie to follow.

Hopefully Jason Robinson and this weeks' rookie are a better fit.

I agree that inexperienced refs need to start somewhere, but would prefer perhaps they be blooded in NRL sanctioned trial matches when 2 competition points are not on the line. At this point of the season avoiding the wooden spoon is just as important to some clubs as winning the minor premiership is for others and so giving the inexperience refs to lower ranking teams can still affect that team's season.
