Maybe, but we still offered him another (2 year?) deal in 2015. He left us because he wanted a longer contract.

I think this mostly because he was close to Griffin, and I doubt he'd be shy about speaking his mind. I'd say he's put a few people off side in the hierarchy.

If Cleary is too stupid to realise that he could still learn a lot from Jimmy in the short term, then I repeat my comments from another thread - I don't think he is going to be the superstar that he is currently being hyped up to be. He is confident, steady, and composed, but his skill set is not extraordinary.

We offered him one year if I recall properly but I could be wrong.

huh? What does this have to do with Cleary? Can hardly think he is in charge of the Panthers recruitment and retention. I think this has more to do with Gus being pissed that Maloney has backed Griffin. It could though also be connected with the Panthers wanting Tyrone Peachey to break his contract with the Gold Coast. The Panthers have already told the Gold Coast that Peachey wants to stay at the Panthers.

He’s in the top 3 halves in the comp. I can say with certainty he would be an upgrade for any club in the league besides basically us, and the riff will drop off without him.

                        Agree 100%
its definatley true that Cleary and him don’t get along
gus is throwing all his eggs in the Cleary basket but I see nothing special about the kid. He has a long way to go to live up to the hyped placed on him

The Panthers have got no chance of winning the comp whether Maloney is in the side or not. Gus farked up sacking Griffin & if I was Maloney I'd be out of there.

I don’t get the buzz about Cleary. In fact the accolades he got during origin were not warranted. The romanticism over him and his dad being at the Tigers scary.

He gets good stats on NRL fantasy. Rightly or wrongly, I reckon a lot of the experts read heavily into stats when judging players.

IMO there's always some truth in the stats because a good fantasy score (generally) means you are either running 200+ metres a game, making 60+ tackles a game, making 200+ kick metres a game (NFI how they calculate that), making very few errors or doing a lot of tries/assists. As technical as one can get, any player who is punching out any of these stats is doing something right and you can make pretty broad statements based on them. Without these stats, it is difficult to argue that you are a good player I reckon.
