  • Glad we're not like this

    https://www.nrl.com/news/2018/08/27/...sis-merchants/

    I like Dufty's comment:

Without being rude they need to wake up to themselves. We've made the finals. Instead of throwing criticism they could show us some support. We try not to focus on external noise but it's hard not to when it's your own fans.

It's easy for fans to take pot shots at players, but is it helpful? Always a place for constructive criticism, but if you spit the dummy whenever your team loses maybe you need to take a look at yourself.

Apart from not burning jerseys I dont think many of our supporters are much different

That’s sport and your fans will boo you especially with a performance they put in at home. If Dufty doesn’t like it then he should look at himself in the mirror and choose a different career like Adam Goodes did.

So you think that if we'd been beaten 0-38 by the Broncos the other day, or any other team this year...or do by the Eels next Saturday, our fans in general would gather around the tunnel [or at ANZ around the exits] and hurl expletive-laden insults at our players?

Some of the defensive efforts shown by certain players (including Dufty) was outright embarrassing..

Throw in the fact the players were playing for a top 4 spot,Lance Thompson’s passing and Nightingales last game the supporters have every right to feel ripped off!

As you said if the players can’t handle it they should change professions and see what the real world brings..

Boo our team off the field?
Hurl expletive-laden insults at our players at the tunnel?

Only severely-misguided fans would do that.

Being a true supporter means sticking by your team through the bad times as well as the good. That is what the word support means. I have supported Easts all my life and that means through the bad years I was still going to games and staying to the end of the game even when they were getting smacked. Unfortunately all teams have their quota of fair weather fans who jump on the bandwagon when they are going well and jump back off again when they are not, even us. I think there are probably more of that type of fan in the St George fanbase. Well, that’s what it looks like. I myself haven’t witnessed that level of abuse to our team after a bad loss. Even last weekend many fans stuck around and gave our boys a clap when they came to the fence and handed out Steedens to the supporters who stayed behind. I think it shows our boys that we will stick even when things aren’t going well. I feel they appreciate it too.

Nah probably not. They would probably be too gutlless to do it to the players faces and instead resort to coming on here or facebook pages to hurl the abuse

                    Indeed.

Leaving before the end of a match can also be a 'dangerous' game to play...look at the Manly v Panthers match this season.

Hurling expletive-laden abuse at players...would hardly have them wanting to give their all next match, would it.

Sometimes the other team is just too good, no matter how hard your players try.

Reading internet forums is optional...walking up the tunnel/leaving the ground is not.

Constructive criticism here should be allowed, and is.

There have been loud boos at Allianz at half time.
My guess is they were directed at the referees, not our players.

Now correct me if I am wrong, but it appears what you are saying is that paying spectators have no right to voice their displeasure to players in person on game day. That they should instead come on social media and do this, because the players have the option of not hearing or reading this.

I hate the idea of supporters booing their own team.

Reserve that for referees and opponents.

                            Its weak.

I would've thought by now that St Merge supporters would've just gone: 'Yep!'.
