  • Womens Premiership Rd1 - Saturday at ANZ

So clearly the NRL don’t want this to be a success or at least encourage people to attend.

Our girls play Warriors at ANZ at 300 next Saturday while our boys play at Allianz at 730.

Opportunity missed as I can’t see anyone heading out to ANZ to watch the girls.

hopefully the club try to have it moved.

It's crazy. It's also crazy that the games aren't stand alone. Do you have to pay full price to get in even if you only want to watch the Roosters girls? Women's SOO was stand alone, why wouldn't they do this the same way?
Why not play the first game at Birchgrove Oval, like the first men's game? They would have got a good crowd with a great atmosphere. Or Leichhardt Oval? Or North Sydney Oval, like the SOO?

It definitely should not be standalone, sponsorship is much easier to achieve if its going to be backed onto the NRL semis.
I am not sure about the tickets, but I am guessing the NRL are counting on fans coming early to see the WNRL.

I think its annoying that the Roosters are minor premiers and can't get their WNRL team at the same location. I think its to do with the AFL crowd and giveing the Warriors one opportunity to play at the same place as their NRL side, this maybe the only opportunity for that whereas the Roosters will have at least 1 more chance

On the nrl site, it says tickets for the women’s game is $20 member or $25 non member, what stops you staying at the stadium for the Warriors/Penrith game?

Want to watch the roosters men's at Allianz! And I think those prices are minimum …

Kingbilly, not saying there isn't some risk in making the games stand alone, but it's a bit mickey mouse that they're not. It'd be better if you had a few thousand passionate fans than 15 000 who don't care either way.

I think I'm right in saying the AFL women's games were stand alone - and well supported.

This is the first year they're doing the comp, so credit to them for just doing it, but if it's the same 4 team format next year I think the games should be stand alone. With weeks 2 and 3 of the finals having no Sunday games you could have a game on Sunday afternoon so that people can get their league fix. Maybe a game on Sat at 3 and a game on Sunday at 4.

There's no long term future for professional women' league unless it pays it's way. If stand alone games aren't viable, then neither is women's league. The NRL is probably trying to avoid a financial disaster in the first season, and fair enough, but they could have more faith in the product. The first (stand alone) women's SOO was a big success, no reason to think that this comp couldn't create the same kind of interest. The standard should be similar. You've got 4 teams instead of 2, but you've also got New Zealanders and teams that have practised professionally together for several weeks/months.

Surely there are sponsors who'd get on board. Women make up half of the population. And it could encourage more women to play the game and therefore more women to become fans of NRL.

Are these games televised at all? Would like to see Kelly run around in the RWB

I believe they're live on 9. The game v Warriors this Sat is listed at least.

They were also free entry, or gold coin donation.

Didn't know that - it would explain the good crowds, although maybe you could charge $5 entry and still get good crowds. Given that (at least some of) the games are going to be televised on free to air (the rights for which should cover costs), wondering why the NRL didn't do the same thing.

You want everybody at the ground thinking that the game they are watching is the main event. Creates more excitement.

And given that we're playing at Allianz that evening, Rooster support at the game will be small. Crazy. They're playing the game in Sydney and have organised it so that our girls won't get much support.

But the Women's AFL maybe one thing they didn't get right. I have been hearing the standard is suffering and its not as popular as they want it to be

I'm really proud of the club for having a women's team. It's awesome.
