Latrell Mitchell’s clash with Will Chambers the highlight of the match

    SEPTEMBER 30, 2018

GRAND final highlight reels are usually reserved for spectacular tries and acts of courage.

The moment I could watch again 1000 times was Roosters centre Latrell Mitchell bundling his Melbourne Storm opponent Will Chambers into touch in the 24th minute of the game and then bumping him into an advertising sign. OMG I loved it.

A moment when you climb out of your seat and just cheer.

Chambers reacted by throwing the ball in his face.

The frustration on the face of the premiership’s most disliked player said it all.

He’d already had two Roosters tries scored on his side of the field. Latrell Mitchell and Will Chambers come to blows during the grand final. (AAP Image/Joel Carrett) NO ARCHIVING, EDITORIAL USE ONLY
This is the bloke who did the shocking crusher tackle on Jarryd Hayne six weeks ago.

The player who has had six foul play charges in two years for grapple tackles, a knee lift, a careless high tackle, fighting and a shoulder charge.

It was like payback night. That he comes from Melbourne and plays for QLD made it all the more enjoyable. Mitchell was outstanding for the Roosters.

That he didn’t win the Dally M centre-of-the-year award is an outrage. Joey Leilua. Give me a break.

Mitchell is now clearly the game’s premier centre. The new Greg Inglis.

At just 21 years of age. To think he will play and dominate for another decade. A frustrated Chambers had two Roosters score on his side of the field when the frustration boiled over. (AAP Image/Joel Carrett)
So the Roosters finish the year as most worthy premiers.

The Cooper Cronk grand final paid off. He could have played in a dinner suit and not needed a dry cleaner.

He was that uninvolved. The Roosters had four sets before his first touch out of dummy half.

It was like they played with 12 men but he was out there as a leader more than anything else.

To bark the instructions and to settle his teammates in the more anxious moments.

Not that there were that many in the first half for the Roosters. Buzz Rothfield said it was payback night for Latrell Mitchell. Picture: Brett Costello
“One of the best on-field coaching performances I’ve ever seen,” said Gus Gould.

The Roosters dominated possession and the physical exchanges.

Luke Keary was magnificent while Cronk nursed his busted left shoulder.

He played mostly first receiver and did much of the fifth tackle kicking.

The Roosters were almost perfect in the opening 40 minutes to take an 18-nil lead into halftime. Fox Sports stats had them making only one error. To be out on the field Cooper Cronk showed incredible bravery. (Photo by Mark Kolbe/Getty Images)
The fact Keary played so dominantly can be out down to the forwards.

Jared Waerea-Hargreaves produced arguably the finest big game of his career.

He absolutely smashed his Storm opponents in the opening exchanges and the rest followed him.

The Storm played like anything but Melbourne Storm.

Unforced errors, missed tackles and a lack of discipline.

Even in their first set of the second-half Dale Finucane spilt the football under no pressure.

It was like they’d used up all of their luck at the judiciary five nights earlier because most of the bounce-of-the-balls went the Roosters’ way. Boyd Cordner and Jake Friend celebrate their grand final victory. Picture: Brett Costello
There was nothing Cameron Smith could do about. The little general for once had no answers.

Not on a night the rest of his football side was completely outplayed and out-enthused.

Smith’s opposite number Jake Friend was simply outstanding.

Can you believe this was the same player booed off the field against the South Sydney Rabbitohs earlier this year by his own fans. He finishes 2018 as their hero.

Chamberpot will be scarred for life after what Latrell has done to him this year!

Very good Buzz. Saying cronk was 5% chance but you tipped us so you really do have some idea.

Chambers is not top of my most disliked. It was a funny moment but i got way more sustenance seeing Latrell give Slater a knee in the face after scoring.

Jake Friend showed some decent speed tonight. When he did that long run down field I thought my eyes were deceiving me in seeing a 9 instead of a 6.

Munster was not making any ground up on him.

Even I underestimated how good this team is. Storm are done. We have taken Crighton from the Bunnies. I can't see anyone getting near us next year.
