If you see where the rumour started then that should be enough to take it with a grain of salt. Looking at his latest Instagram the mohawk is pretty much gone.
And he has said he will definitely be at the Roosters a few weeks ago when there were rumours around from the same newspaper that he wanted out.

Love Matto, thank him for helping us win a comp, wish him all the best, and would welcome him back if that ever happens, but Crichton is an upgrade.
