  • Ian Schubert

For those of you either too young or just missed it-the man (Roosters legend) on GF night, Ian Schubert did something quite unique back in late August 1982. Go to YouTube and find a clip of the Roosters greatest try from 1982 against Manly.

I remember him as a 19 year old sensation in 1975 and for his head clash with Ted Goodwin in the 75 gf.

I remember Schubert coming into first grade, initially as a winger and then moved to fullback when big Mark Harris fell on Russell Fairfax's leg - and broke it.

He hit the scene like a rocket. Went straight into the Australian team and scored three tries on his international debut. Was stilla good player thereafter, but never quite lived up to that great first season.

As Spirit of 66 mentioned, he was knocked out along with St George's Ted Goodwin an an almighty clash as they both went for a high ball. Came back from that to be the man of the match with a great fullback display.

Well for those that haven't already read about it, Ian was my teacher in 1975. He was a student teacher that year and he was training in my class so it was good to see him on stage.

if you get the opportunity, watch his performance in the 1975 grand final. a few years ago they handed out retrospective Clive Churchill Medals for the grand finals pre1988, and he was the undisputed choice for 1975

No it was at Rainbow St public school. In fact the Daily Mirror back then came to our class to take some pics for their article about the GF game v Saints. We all appeared on the Friday edition and one member here, Tom Verlains Ghost, happened to have
a digitised copy of that pic. Go Figure!

Went to school with my cousin and is the reason I began following the Roosters. Coincidentally his younger twin sisters were in my class at Wauchope high school yr 7 1976
