NRL seized Sharks directors phones.
Isn't this what happened at Parra and Manly.
Woods, Fifita, Holmes, Lewis, Dugan, Gallen, Wade, Moylan... it's one thing to cheat the cap and another thing to pick a winning team. Unfortunately for Cronulla, the two don't always go hand in hand.
Just like how having JT, Tate, Hannant, Tamou, Cooper, Scott and Bowen in a team (while pinching Linnett and Mitchell from us during our darkest hour) doesn't magically make you win lotsa games.
Lotsa teams cheat. Doesn't necessarily achieve anything... might get you DCE for life... if that's a thing, I guess.
SOME Cronulla Sharks directors have had their mobile phones confiscated by the NRL integrity unit as part of the investigation into the club’s potential salary cap breaches.
The Daily Telegraph can reveal some directors reluctantly handed over their phones to the NRL on Monday morning.
It is a dramatic development in the NRL’s ongoing examination into Cronulla’s alleged salary cap irregularities during 2015 and 2017.
“Unfortunately, I’m not able to make any comment as the investigation by the NRL is ongoing and confidential,” Sharks chief executive Barry Russell said.
One well-placed source said the investigation must be “hotting up” if phones had been seized.
The NRL would not comment yesterday.
Sharks officials remain concerned about what occurred in 2015, particularly now the NRL potentially has mobile phone evidence.
It is unknown whether then Sharks CEO and now Manly chief executive Lyall Gorman had his phone taken. He was not at Manly’s Narrabeen headquarters on Monday.
The NRL has made the probe a priority but is yet to nail down any final findings.
It is understood the NRL has been investigating Cronulla for six months.
Russell turned up suspicious and historic payments during a club-instigated governance review and immediately informed the NRL integrity unit.
In August, the NRL also impounded a number of servers.
The NRL has no timeframe for when it hopes to finalise and announce its findings.
At the time, it was thought the breach could be more than $250,000.
The Daily Telegraph reported in August that the investigation centred around undeclared third-party payments last year after the value of players increased considerably following Cronulla’s 2016 premiership win.
There is no suggestion coach Shane Flanagan’s mobile phone was taken.
The NRL had wanted several Cronulla officials to give evidence.
When the cap drama first surfaced, NRL chief executive Todd Greenberg said Flanagan, Gorman and former chairman Damian Keogh would be asked to front the NRL.
> There is no suggestion coach Shane Flanagan’s mobile phone was taken.
Why the express reference?

Why mention unrelated 'facts'?
From my previous post you can see how much I hate the Sharks but serioualy... the Tele's lawyers are absolute flogs. I kinda wish somebody would try to sue the Tele and report their in-house lawyers for stupidity.*
* There is no suggestion that [names out all the Tele's lawyers] are stupid. Unrelated defamation cases are regularly brought against the Daily Telegraph... there is no suggestion that they have anything to do with the current circumstances which of course, we're not alleging to be true.
Been going for a while this.
Clubs can be real dumb.
Look at the Clearys deal whats Ivan on now? is he a million dollar coach? doubt it 300 grand at best.
See too easy to rort here Ivan here's 1.5 mill give half to your son..Get it
I made this up above as an example...can and could and probably does happen.Too easy.
Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the universe
Honestly though why would anyone involved hand over their phones?
The NRL isnt a legal department that can confiscate items so surely the police would need to be involved & issue warrants.

My thoughts are...
1. Courts have the power to issue what's called an 'Anton Piller' order. Dunno if that's what happened but it's similar to a warrant in that it allows you to rock up unannounced with some large men and say 'I have a court order demanding you hand over x, y and z'. This doesn't allow civilians to break down doors. However if you say 'no get fukked... you're not coming in or getting anything from me' then it's contempt of court (which is a pretty serious offence).
2. For a practical perspective, the NRL has its own internal governance and policies. I'm guessing that they've got a bunch of contracts that you've gotta sign before running an NRL franchise and you're probably gonna be in breach of one of these if you refuse to cooperate with bog standard internal governance procedures. I've never seen these contracts so have NFI what they do but I mean... the NRL's allowed to have its own internal governance. Try saying 'get fukked NRL judiciary, you are not a real court!! I'm playing despite the suspension!!!' You'll probably find yourself getting kicked out of the stadium and deregistered.
PS - if you ever study law then the 2 things you need to get out of civil litigation are 'Anton Piller' and 'Mareva Injunction'. Some pretty decent light reading if you're interested in this kinda stuff (not saying either have been used in these circumstances BTW... just a possibility).
