so with 9 players gone and 4 signed the NRL squad is 25 players - 5 places to fill - The development squad is 6 - don't know how many are still in that 6 or are being moved up to the NRL? - The Chooks site still has the 2018 - 30 player NRL and 6 Development players up.

Fergo and Matto probably on a combined $600k between the two of them, the other 7 on minimum at $80k a throw, that's about $1.2k max. all up. We then have to replace the players we have lost so we would need to sign 8 players on $80k to have anything decent leftover for another signing
Spot on mate doesn't free up anything other than the bottom tier of the roster who will be replaced by low key cheap signings or maybe a promotion from the Flegg squad. 66 by the way.

They are all top 30 players, so they all woulda been on at least $100k a year. So you're right in that they'll just be replaced by others on $100k a year (thus giving no net saving).

          However:
-Fergo was a rep player and woulda been on at least $500k a year
          - Matto woulda been on at least the average salary of $330k a year as he was a regular 1st grader
          - Baptiste, Reece and FPN were experienced players who woulda been on more than minimum... Baptiste gave up a Super League contract that woulda been at least $150-$200k I reckon
          - SOS and Cornish were legit second-teir playmakers so woulda been on more than minimum ($200k+ a piece)
          - If 2 were on minimum wage it woulda been Momirovski and Vunakece

          All up:
          - $900k is dead money (i.e. you HAVE to spend it)
          - On top of this I reckon that the 9 players woulda netted at least $1M more under the cap
          - This has allowed us to sign Morris and Hall
