Honestly I had never ever heard it before 1995 It was at that time Super League war and we were also changing to Sydney City Roosters the following year Upon hearing this some of us whom then sat in BAY 35 well before it was known at the Chookpen started chanting EASTS EASTS EASTS EASTS at games (this was an effort to preserve our original identity and where we were from) no drums or anything but it spread at the games This is where that chant came from and it was an effort by some supporters whom at that time weer either in their twenties or thirties who wanted to try and preserve our identity So happy it worked the way it has

We used to do it in the Turner Stand in the late 70's and early 80's.

I dont recall it as I did sit in the Turner Stand but I was a young kid Or was that when they did the are you ready and when the letter was announced like E someone held up an E and so forth till Eests was spelt out louder EASTS louder EASTS then it went into ROOSTERS ROOSTERS I remember that well but not a chant that just started with EASTS EASTS and ended that way

Either way in 1995 Some of us in BAY 35 started doing it to try and preserve our original identity as we were changing to Sydney City Roosters the next season

Definitely did it then. Are you ready was something else - and when Brian was at his best it was magnificent.

Todd McNamara led the Easts chant amongst a couple others in The Chookpen. That would have been late 90's I would think. He passed the baton off after a few years onto the Cannon. One year Todd was the on ground MC but was punted when he asked for some more money. They then went and hired a bunch of nuff nuffs who didn't even follow the Roosters and probably paid them quadruple what Todd wanted.

Watching the 2013 GF and comparing that with 2018 Roosters fans at the GF, I feel this years crowd was more organised and created a better atmosphere...very Tribal. Love it!..Would someone that was there at both be able to give their view?

I was at both in the Roosters section and I think the difference was more due to the flow of both games and the occasion as a whole.

2013 was so ****ing tense. It'd been over a decade since our last title and we'd lost 3 GFs in a row. Plus we were playing a much hated rival. I remember being in absolutely despair at 16-6 at the thought of ANOTHER GF loss. And that horrible thought was present throughout tbh.

And the game itself was so nerve-racking. We made lots of errors in our own half and at 16-6 down it wasn't looking good. So the crowd was passionate but quietly tense for much of this.

On the flipside it made the celebrations when Jennings scored and at full time more jubilant than 2018 simply because the game went down to the wire and the sudden sense of relief that we'd ended the GF losing streak.

In contrast I felt a more carnival like atmosphere at the start of the 2018 GF and I put that down to us breaking the Prelim hoodoo so there was already that sense of relief just to have made it back to the GF. Also beating Souths was such a ****ing high I felt it carried over. And this initial feeling just carried into a wave of hysteria because of how the first half panned out.

But because it felt like we had it won long before full time there wasn't the same outpouring as 2013 at full time. Simply because the whole match felt like a Premiership celebration.

So yeah, the difference was down to circumstance imo. But it was noticeable.

Pretty good summation Tommy. I was at both as well and it was a completely different feel this year to 2013. In 2013 we were the favourites, whereas this year we weren't.

Also I think the fact that we were roundly written off due the doubt surrounding Cronk relaxed the fans to an extent. We weren't expected to win. Funnily enough I felt that way myself earlier in the week but the closer we got to game time the more confident I became.

Then, that first half performance rallied the Roosters fans even further. I was in complete shock at half time as to how good we were. I've been waiting for a performance like that for 40 years so to see it in the flesh in a grand final nonetheless was outrageous.

The second half, although I had my usual self-doubt about us stuffing things up, became a carnival of celebrations the longer the half went on.

Anyway, I have now experienced 2 live GF wins this century (I missed 2002, but was at the 2003, 2004 & 2010 losses). It's great that each one was different.

Good summation Tommy.. i guess the carnival atmosphere was created by that sea of RWB flags which wasn’t that evident in 2013 plus our power play from the get go and the smashing of karate kid at every opportunity.
