  • Aussie Cricketer - Adam Zampa Plucky Roosters fan

Adam Zampa will enjoy the chance to play another international at the SCG, a ground which holds mixed emotions for the young leggie.
"I had my first jersey when I was only one day old," Zampa said. "My dad [Darren] and his brothers used to go and watch the Roosters; they'd get the train from Shellharbour and watch them at the Sydney Sports Ground and sit on top of the stand. They liked watching Arthur Beetson play.
"They corrupted me. But I've had a pretty good run. I'm 26 and went to the 2002, 2003 and 2004 grand finals. I was old enough in 2010 to realise you need to pay good money for seats at the grand final, and in 2013 I was living in Adelaide."

Zampa, a Latrell Mitchell and Boyd Cordner fan, was never allowed to play rugby league when he was growing up in Warilla, just north of Shellharbour.
"Mum said it was too dangerous, and I'm a small fella, so I'd definitely get run over," he said.

Cricket was Zampa's calling and the little leggie will certainly enjoy the chance to play another international at the Roosters' temporary home ground, the SCG, on Sunday night.

More than 40,000 fans will pack the historic ground for the third and final T20 international against India.....................

That's some decent commitment... for those who don't know, Shellharbour's not really Wollongong, it's like an hour south of the Gong and it's like a town of its own.

Other than that, I hate cricket, never heard of the guy and couldn't care less. Frankly, it's pretty boring and not very popular.

Saw Michael Clarke at my local mall a while back signing books and literally nobody cared (i.e. nobody bought his book or went up to say hello). A couple of Indian guys pointed and were like 'hey didn't he play cricket?' but other than that nobody even noticed. In comparison Stirling Mortlock was doing a promotion at my local Officeworks and the place was packed. I'm not a huge rugby fan and he's hardly contemporary, but IMO that demonstrates the status of cricket. Nobody cares and they care less now that we don't win every game.

Maybe my view is jaded because I dated a nurse from Albion Park during my time at the Gong uni. I swear the trek out there feels like an hour and Shellharbour's even further. Dapto and beyond are a struggle for me though (as a fancy little Austinmer boy).

Either way, it's a shyte travel and it's much further than Wollongong to Sydney. Despite my hatred of cricket, I respect this man for his efforts (something our national cricket team lacks severely BTW - effort).

Cricket is not as big as it used to be. Crowds are done a lot. except when India play us then its full of Indian supporters.
Its not the absolute joke union is but it is in trouble
