Govt made a mistake with the awarding of the contract...in my opinion.

Just saw a segment on ch 7 6pm tv news tonite about "the demolition of Allianz stadium".
Newsreader said that demolition will resume tomorrow.
Labor Party leader Michael Daley then apeared on the screen urging Gladys govt to stop the demolition, promising that if he is elected Premier in March he will "see how much has been demolished...then put it all back together...and renovate it...using the money for a new stadium for 'hospitals' instead.

Demolition has begun but...
1. It's all a stunt. I call it 'Stuart Ayres' last stand... I know the guy... he was the marketing dude at ACPE before fluking his way into politics (quite literally the guy who convinced RTS to play for us with an ACPE scholarship, despite being a Patnthers fan). He's actually a good guy so it's disappointing to see him thrown to the wolves (and possibly the ICAC) over this stunt. I serious hop he doesn't land up in trouble and some Liberal party cronies have a decent job lined up for him.
2. All they've done is ripped out a few of the lower seats. The actual 'stadium' will go down last after everything's been removed (look at it, it's intetionally very modular...)
2. There's 1 month (less?) until an election. Like it of not the Libs are gonna get smashed and demolition will stop.
3. A new tender will go out for a PPP style renovation.
4. Stadium will be renovated by the next election (the way it always shoulda happened - this is a blatant waste of public $$$ on the basis the Libs knew it'd never happen) and we'll have moved onto a new champter. Hopefully involving another Roosters premiership to celebrate the reno...

I dont get some of the debate .Its common knowledge around the world that stadiums usually have a general lifespan of 30 years.So I guess it has to come down .
Only one place stands the test of time --partially anyway ..The old Rome Coliseum.

All for the new stadium, not sure what people want the money spent on instead, schools?hospitals? Those get billions allocated to them every year, and they always say they need more, so the 700million probably wouldn’t stretch that far. Art? Nobody complains when money is thrown at that when it isn’t for everybody. Refurbishments aren’t that easy, and the cost still isn’t cheap, the SCG spent 200million on just two stands 5 yrs ago. SFS Shouldn’t need nothing major done to it or money spent on it for a few more decades after this.

WSS looks awesome and it is being built for around 300million, holds around 30k, 700million sounds like a lot more for an extra 15,000 people. That’s probably the only thing that comes into question, demolition cost must be a lot higher for SFS.

Randwick Racecourse (1833), MCG (1854), Anfield (1884), Old Trafford (1910), Belmore Oval (50's)...etc. Stadiums are just big concrete slabs full of cheapo plastic seats, surrounding a heap of dirt and grass. Dunno if you notice but everything else is basically demountable buildings setup around the seating arrangement.

The main issues are:
- The dirt/grass becomes crap (no suggestion of this at the SFS but you could fully re-do it for a couple of million if it was crap).
- The technology's not good enough (SFS has already been upgraded to NRL standard and has the biggest screens in the comp - technology is not an issue).
- Toilets and change rooms are shyte (upgrade them for a few million).
- Seating arrangement was designed to suit the Sydney Olympics and just about every sport, not just rugby league. Also, according to the powers that be we all NEED a square stadium rather than a round one (well then rip the seats out and replace them for a few million rather than ripping the whole house down). TBH though, cheap tickets will always give you a shyte view no matter what shape you make the stadium.

The SFS isn't some fibro beach shack, it's a large industrial grade structure made of concrete and extremely thick metal. Between now and 23 March they'll basically:
- Take the seats out
- Start gutting the shops + rooms and stuff

From 24 March they will be ordered to basically continue cleaning stuff out for the reno, but to scrap plans for the demoliton. Sorry Liberal party fanboiz
