For example, if demolition of the stadium goes ahead (as a decision in the courts today indicates), it's probable that faced between the choice of a hole in the ground v a new stadium, Daley will choose the latter. Particularly if contracts already signed would cost money to get out of. He's saying shit now because he wants to get elected, but if he's faced with pretty much a done deal, what can he do?

There are "knock down rebuild" houses} [KDRs]...easier and better to knock down old houses then design and build new ones with all the desired safety and other features...than try to renovate them, try to stick things onto them...it's never the same.

Tbh, I wouldn't have a problem with that, so long as the place is safe. If the State saves a few dollars, nothing wrong with that.
I wasn't necessarily against the building of a new stadium. Sometimes you've got to spend money to make money and it's possible that outlaying all the money might have brought more people to Sydney. That said, so long as we've got a stadium in the Moore Park area to watch the Roosters - I'm happy.
One problem with having a great stadium is that away teams love playing there. We had one of our best seasons when we played out of Henson Park ...

II try and skip the political stuff when it comes to football because a part of why I go to the football is to step out of the day to day life and live in the moment of following our club.

in regards to the death trap notion that Jones links to Hillsborough deaths (which was a very tragic outcome largely linked to bad human decision making relating to crowd management) why which was a key finding were that all exit gates be manned to allow immediate and effective exiting of the stadium.

Can Jones explain and i put him on public notice given his detailed interest in closeness of the two stadiums for a repeat incident - why he and the SCG Trust have made a decision to keep a major exit gate locked during and after the game on the northern concourse where a large number of spectators are funneled into as the exit the ground,


I hope Alan Jones isn't using a terrible human tragedy to progress the agenda of a few.

The hard demolition seems to have already started and by the time of the election it will be in full swing. Not sure what happens now if the Libs don’t win the election. Watching Gladys on TV last night makes me a little concerned. She wouldn’t even say the word Stadium and kept evading the questions put to her about it. She came across as nervous and where as in the past was confident and determined now seems passive and noncommittal. She gave the impression of someone who has made an error in judgment and is now evading the issue and possible consequences.

At least now Gladys has the gloves on and has come out swinging!

Totally agree. Neither side has tackled the elites and the large corporate tax. Possibly because despite the system, they truely rule.

So Hillsborough wasn't about exits. What happened was that a stadium built circa 1899 had an upper level with standing room only (i.e. no seats and a policy of cramming in). Some of its significant supports were wooden. The stadium was fine but the local club hosted Liverpool. There were a LOOOT more spectators than usual (all that 'you'll never walk alone' BS - shudder - round balls) and no turnstiles, so the ticket inspectors just gave up and let everybody in. Result? Too many people stood on a wooden balcony (including people climbing up the fence from lower levels) and it fell down, crushing everybody below.

Exits weren't an issue. The issue was that they let too many people in too quickly without checking tickets to assess capacity. The fix for this was to introduce rules that you need turnstiles and fixed seating numbers.

The SFS is nothing like this because:
- It's one of those modern engineered, round, cement and metal stadiums that's engineered to hold 10x the number of spectators it can fit. It wasn't built in 1899. It was built in 1988 and was a shiny, cutting edge example of the modern world when Hillsborough broke.
- It has turnstiles with modern barcode scanners and a modern, 100% computerised ticket allocation system
- It only has seated areas (and corporate boxes)

You are confused and do not understand the separation of powers:
1. Corporate tax rates are a federal issue, not a state issue.
2. Murdoch is lobbying to cut the corporate tax rate, so lowering it would be in line with his wishes.
