Mentioned this weeks ago in another thread when the Carney situation first happened ... now that its official he is no longer here...

Anasta is now the first choice kicker ... it has been mentioned that BJ and SKD can kick but in the event of an injury to Anasta the other two being first choice kickers is not very reassuring.

Yes ... we have to score tries first to get the oppurtunity to convert ... but surely this has to be considered when thinking of any new signings.

Great post mate. This is a huge issue that gets very little attention. In my opinion a team can not be dominant without a first-class goalkicker. We need someone who can kick 75% or more. So often games are decided by just a few points and having a top goalkicker could make all the difference. Obviously he is hated here but Sandow was something like 85% this year. That is huge in my opinion ( I don't want to sign him or defend him but just as an example).

If Anasta is our first choice I don't think we will make the top 8. He goes okay and did well this season considering it was not his job. It is no criticism of Anasta but just a fact. He is not good enough. From the sideline he might make it or might not. You certainly would not want to have money or a premiership riding on Anasta kicking one from the sidelines. Are there any other options?? Also our dropkicking options are not great either. Yeah Anasta is okay and who will ever forget 2010 but Pearce has proven to be useless IMO.

Don't mean to shit on your point, Braith Anasta's goalkicking over the course of his career is currently at 77.8% (75% in 2011)


Give him another full off season of knowing he is number 1 and practising as such and he'll be an 80% kicker next year.

Interesting stat Danish but sometimes stats can be misleading. For an average goalkicker like Anasta the more he kicks the lower his percentage of success will be. I do admit there is room for improvement but I would compare him to Fittler. Fittler could kick goals because he could do anything but he certainly was no Hazem al Masri.

Agree that a high percentage kicker is a key ingredient for success. looking back Canterbury made it a key factor in their recruitment in years gone bye .... Ross Conlon ... Terry Lamb... Darrly Halligan ....not including el Masri...

I think this year for the roosters goalkicking wasnt an issue as for many games we were hard pressed scoring more than 13 points in a game .... however when you get into games where each team scores 4 or 5 tries each and taking into account how many of those tries may be scored out wide as a result of cross field kicks etc ... than having a 75% kicker is the difference between taking the 2 points or not.

Mate the stats don't lie he had a 75.93% success this year and 78% overall in his career
