  • Maddie Studdon leaves Souths

For those who are interested, Maddie Studdon has left Souths to play with the Sharks in the women's comp. She wants a new start.

That comp is not the NRLW and it sounds like she'd love to play with us at the end of the year if we want her.

She's a Jillaroo and captained NSW in their SOO, but didn't hit those heights when playing for us. Put her hand up to say she wasn't happy with her form and is keen to turn it around.

She was made a poster girl for the NRLW and struggled with the extra attention and pressure. Hopefully she gets back to enjoying her footy, earns another contract with us and helps us win the comp.

I don't know much about the Sydney comp, but why don't we have a roosters team in the local comp? Seems stupid we just get the girls out for a 6 week NRLW comp?

I did notice Maddie didnt look the same player for us as she did in the rep squads.

They really should have the main womens comp with more teams and for longer than just a month or so. I guess its a staged process right now, but is a bit weird as is.

It's a tough one, because there's probably not the talent atm to have more than the four teams, but it does mean that if you're a bit out of form, or you have injuries or bad luck, you don't have time to turn it around. Maybe they should have each team play each other twice ...

I agree with extending the comp, but the issue is what to do with the respective NSW and QLD competitions, you can't take those players away from their clubs for the last few games and the semis.
Will be interesting to see what happens this year, the Roosters, St George and maybe the Warriors all played by the rules not training before the start of August. (A rule implemented by the NRL as part of participating in the comp) while Brisbane blatantly ignored the rule and trained from the beginning of the year, hence the won

I think that is the plan in the next year or two, but it's slow and steady as she goes for this year. And I think that's the right approach.

The problem also is that the local comp most of these girls play in runs until just about the NRLW comp starts, so there needs to be a work around that as well. Some of the peeved off local clubs that don't have NRLW sides (eg Vermin and Sharks) had a whinge last year about their players doing any NRLW training while still playing for them.

I didn't get a chance to see the womens' games last year as I was overseas for the duration of that comp, but will be buying a membership and getting to a few games this year. I hope Maddi gets another opportunity with the Chooks.

The North Sydney Bears have a team in the NSWRL Women's comp and I have heard that the Roosters will use this as a feeder.

as I understand it, not officially.
I like the Bears but I really worry about having a relationship with a club that has Ben Gardiner involved

What happened with Ben? He coached the Bears women's team last year and got good results.

3 wins out of 12 and second last are not good results.
Due to personal experience and knowing people that work with him, I am just not a fan
