  • Ben Cummins on Anzac Day. What could go wrong?

    It's happening again...

    2016

“Ben has been horrible and disrespectful to our players for many years and it has continued,” Robinson said in the post-match press conference.

“He speaks poorly to our players. He won’t look them in the eye.”

Robinson also lined up the bunker.

“The bunker has decided to be the on-field referee today, they jumped in at every occasion, they are not the match review committee,” he said.

“It was just soft on ANZAC Day. We want to play a tough game and they were soft calls coming from the bunker, they were not good enough.

“I am not saying we would have won, I am saying we should have had a chance to win.”

Ridiculous appointment. Out of his depth in skill and integrity.

And for the game of the year...should have been Chech.

Seriously, he can't be as bad as Klein last Friday. But make no mistake, Ben enjoys leaving his mark on the result of a game. 2014 prelim was worthy of a few good smacks to the head.

Matt Cecchin should have got this game.....still by far the best ref in the NRL

Agreed. Since the beginning of time, one-eyed fans will blame refs for sports results.

Last week is an example of how disallowing a 'forward pass' try for one team, allowing one for another and then awarding the other team a penalty from right in front can change a game from being a 26-0 blowout to a 20-20 golden point contest. I get that this happens and it's annoying when you think they got it wrong. I'll often have a beer... then a rant... then another beer...etc after this happens.

However, IMO it's a BS attitude when people go in expecting the game to be rigged. We've won a heap of tight contests with Cummins as ref. I doubt he cares who wins tomorrow night.

Agree that we shouldn't get too worked up about refs, but in tight contest unconscious bias by refs could be a factor. Don't tell me that that touchie last Friday was unaffected by running a line in front of Melbourne fans. And what are the odds that a team on top of the table after 6 rounds hasn't won a penalty count? Has that ever happened before?
Refs needs to take a good look at themselves and make sure they're reffing what is in front of them. Just because they think that is what they are doing doesn't mean it is what they are doing.
