Yeah didn't you know that? Surprising other teams haven't figured it out yet. When you're under the pump all you've gotta do is concede a head of penalties on the 2nd tackle, 30m out and the penalty goals/repeat sets will make it super easy for you to win.

In all seriousness though, there are circumstances where we legitimately concede penalties on purpose. Watch the last 5 minutes of the Roosters v Storm game last week. IMO we intentionally did a couple early in the tackle count to shove attacking opposition players over to one side of the field (i.e. we got time to setup our D and they had to start their set in a position where Ado-Carr had zero space to run).

We also did it down our end of the field to prevent drop goal attempts. For example when Smith/Munster had the ball in a position where continuing was basically a 2 move check-mate (i.e. they were in position for Smith to drop back and do a kick so long as the play continued) we'd just penalise Smith, force him to play the ball and then instruct his marker to stay on him making a drop goal impossible.

There's a lot of BS out there, but strategically placed penalties are a legit tactic in all sporting codes.

Just a smidgeon behind the tactic of deliberately NOT conceding penalties vs the Roosters.

That one has seemingly been used by our opponents for 5-10 years.
