What a day for our country.

And we all honour it in our own way...but we are blessed to be able to acknowledge it through our team and our sport each year.

My grandfather played Fly-half for Easts Rugby Club before 1908, then for ESDRLFC when it started, which is why my family support the Roosters. I believe he only played a season or two in the lower grades, then moved out west near Cobar, but he played 5/8 for NSW Country against a touring English team in those very early days of league. He fought in France during WWI, where he was gassed by the Germans, but survived. He was never a well man after that though, and passed away in 1949.

To have our team play on this very special day is a wonderful occasion for my family, as we remember our own family connection to both Anzac Day and the Roosters. Enjoy this amazing day. It’s my favourite game of the regular season by far. I know we will.

My favourite day of the year. The feeling throughout the day is like no other. And the fact that we get to watch our beloved Roosters too makes it all the more special.

Brilliant post waylander. My dad played first grade rugby for Easts and was coaxed by his local pal Dick Dunn to play league. He was graded but then talked back to union by his Bondi surf club mates I’ve a very fond memory of attending my first ever ANZAC Day game in 68 at the SCG with my dad. We were defeated by Manly. Larpa Stewart had a shocker.
The other part about the day was not only the playing of the last post but the billowing smoke that covered the Paddo skyline from a tremendous fire at the old department store called Buckinghams.
Over time the Anzac Day clash has become a real feature unlike the first Anzac Day game I attended.

Thats because you are surrounded by the low end of town. Being a prison guard is not easy & continually seeing & hearing from crims would probably cloud your judgement. If Australia is not the best it's not far off.

We are so privileged to be able to play on this day. It has become a tradition and I hope we always have it. A few years ago there was talk of taking turns and allowing other teams the opportunity to play on Anzac Day. Thank goodness that was knocked on the head. As I said we are very lucky to have this great privilege and it’s definitely the best game of the season outside finals footy. Enjoy the day everyone and EASTS TO WIN!
