I don't expect Smith to be here in 2013. Not for anything other than I agree that we will struggle next year, and we will need another scapegoat to go along with Finch, Freddy, Mason, Myles, and Carney.
These players (coach in Freddy's case) were not scapegoats.

They were punted on merit.
Manly have had just as many trouble-makers in their team and are now premiership favourites. The difference between us and them is they support their players and the entire teams accepts accountability for their on-field performances. We prefer to blame individuals.
Whether Smithy finishes up with us after 2012 or 2013 I'd like to see Trent Robinson being given a go. He has done a great job lifting Catalans from wooden spooners to still be alive in the semis. He was sorely missed this year.
I doubt we will get Bellamy and Hasler and Cleary are no hope. Not many other good options available.
politis talks about building a winning culture at easts - his approval or his actual signings of coaches remains a lot to be desired, the best signings were fittler and gould. gould bought players with strong character type rather than just a football brain and skill. ivan cleary, craig fitzgibbon are fine examples. the roosters in my opinion would have been better in making a play for ivan cleary. he has a winners approach.

He approved Bennett (even though it fell through)
He approved Sticky who took us to 3 straight Grand Finals.
