  • If the 2002 GF was played today

Just a bit of fun to mix things up... but considering how the modern game is played..if the 2002 GF happened today Freddy would have been taken off the field for a HIA (and may not have come back on) would it have changed the outcome?

in fact with modern rules hitting a key player high could have them miss the rest of the game... i wonder if any team is dirty enough to use the HIA rule to do that?

Graham on Burgess during 2014 grand final. All the officials turned a blind eye.

You have sort of acknowledged it is a financial decision. Not worth the risk during the regular season. Player welfare vs a premiership determined by foul play though.

Absolutely Freddy would have gone to HIA. But Villasanti might have got 10 in the bin under today's reffing. Can't believe it wasn't even penalised back then. It was more deliberate than Napa's 2 hits last year.

And we would have been robbed of this great moment

I reckon Easts still would have won. They just would have found a different way of doing so. Maybe Wingy with the #7 on his back would have lead the way. He had a great game himself. That hit worked against the Worriers as it lifted all our boys into gear.

Wing would have been in the head bin too after a head clash with Morley left him lying prone on the ground early in the second half, and wouldn't have been there to score the try that put us in font 12 to 8 with 25 minutes to go. He may not have got back on with todays rules as he said after the game he had no memory of the game after that. It certainly would have made a difference if Freddy had been forced off. We visibly lifted after he was headbutted by Vilisanti, Morley went on a rampage and took all the other forwards with him. He smashed Vilisanti a couple of times. Who knows how it would have turned out under todays rules.
