Fitzy as a person will be invaluable.
Experiece is great, experience as a player to what ever level is handy but thats about it.
It is more important to understand the science and apply that science, Fitzgibbon is no idiot, but unless he has someone that knows the science working with him, the Roosters are in big trouble.

With all due respect KB, that is the point. Fitzy will not be unsupervised but will bring more to his supervision.

Smith told me that Fitzy will be specialising on rehab/fitness etc whilst Elliot will be the defensive coach. He did add though that all the coaching staff work together on every element of the game..elliot wont be just doing defensive stuff.

The part of Elliots game that Easts lack is starting with intent, hopefully he brings that to our game in 2012. It will suit our forwards and give our backs plenty to work off.

Tiptop, because of the person that Fitzy is he will no doubt succeed in this field eventually. However, to have him as the person in charge of "high performance" at this stage would be like taking the club back to the 80's when coaches who only had footy knowledge ran the fitness component of training sessions. There is a lot more to sports science jobs than most people realise. The pre-season testing component alone would involve testing procedures that Fitzy is nowhere near competent of running let alone analysing. It would take him a full season to get a grasp of most things, and that's in one of the best learning environments available.

And Tiptop you're right mate, I lecture Sport and Exercise Science at a university in Sydney and yeah a hell of a lot of graduates don't know anywhere what they should or need to. But it is not these guys that get first grade league sports science jobs. It's the guys that have been in the industry working their way up for 5 or 10 years that get the jobs. To say we'd be disadvantaged with Fitzy as a head conditioner or rehab officer (highly doubt this) would be a gross understatement.

But hey I love the guy and wish him the best. And I honestly think they are playing up the job title to make it seem like he's more involved than he is at this stage. "Club Inspiration manager" would probably be a more apt title at this stage.

High performance units are not normally the people that work with injured players either. Rehab officers control this and Fitzy would have nothing to do with that as a wrong move there could set a player back weeks or months. In saying all this Fitzy will no doubt be doing the training necessary to work with professionals in this field and I'm sure he has some grasp of sports science or at least fitness training, otherwise the club would have simply given him some other role.
Fitz should be our version of Alf Langer & Toovey....running the water and messages. He is a bald after all

Like he did in the last 4 games.

Hopefully he has been doing some sort of course or study re this science. He seems to know a lot about diet and nutrition.
But as you say, Club Inspiration Manager would do for now. Can't think of anyone better suited.

I dont recall penrith having good defence under elliott.

In fact I dont recall penrith having very good anything under elliott other than bombs. I guess he will fit in well at the roosters because thats all we do all game - bomb away - and even then we can't do that properly most of the time.

Fitzy has the bennet Type of aura around him-goes about his business with no fuss -His playing attitude will reflect on him one day as a coach.
Hopefully he will e like U20's coach next year
He will be a good influence

Banastas midfield bombs are world class.

maybe Fitz can bring back his kick chase

Then we will be tres formidable

These guys http://www.originofenergy.com/ rebuilt Fitzy after he nearly broke down towards the end of his career and its this holistic fitness approach that saw him still performing at his peak despite injury that would have ended careers of those with less ticker

Was he rebuilt by Oscar Goldman?

Fitzy isn't the 24 million dollar man though.
