According to TR in an article at NRL.COM Cronk was rested because he had been trained very hard / extra hard in the week before the game to make up for training he missed early in the season.

He has gifted us a premiership, I wish a great life ahead for him with or without playing
Let's pray for a best outcome for the young man"Qui audet adipiscitur"

It's not about him not being able to handle hard training sessions.
Watch Robinson's post match conference from last week. He explains all in that.

Taking a quick timeline on Keary's concussion. The big knock was when Sitili crashed into him at training in February last year and broke his cheekbone. He gets kaoyed mid-October, six months later.
Another six months later he goes down again in April against the Storm and now Newcastle - end of May - around six weeks later.
If there's a pattern at all, it's that these incidences are coming closer, and he may require at least a couple of months. This will put his conditioning and fitness all astray, plus his timing etc leading into the end of season games. Obviously I am describing a worst case scenario. My question - Keary aside for the moment - is where is our plan B?
Do we have the talent within the club and do we have the roster flexibility for a short term purchase that could cover. Now I don't know whether anyone has mentioned this, or even whether it is feasible. So I am ready for the approaching humiliation. James Maloney anyone...if at all possible. What are your thoughts on possible replacements if it comes to that.

if I was Lamb I would look to the SL to bring new life back to my career.

If we could afford Jimmy, without losing anyone else, then I'd take him.

Thanks for the answers and to Roosterchick I hadn't thought of Carney. Could he cope with the speed of NTL these days. It's been a good eight years since he played with us. But to be honest (now there's a Bellamy cliche LOL) I haven't seen a lot him in superleague of wherever he lurks these days.
My thoughts are Robbo will lean toward Lachlan Lam with Cooper's assistance. Lam has more of a running game than Brock Lamb from what I have seen. He is more similar to Keary in style of play. Jimmy is closer still and there are rumours he wants out. I would imagine that if we could lock down someone like Jimmy Maloney before the June 30 deadline that it may involves a player swap too.But he knows the players and was often seen at Roosters games after he switched to the Sharks..

Not swapping JWH, Tetevano, or any other top shelf player for him though.
We could back end his contract...pay him $50,000 for this year, then fix that up after Cronk's gone...like Bennett and Merge did in 2010 with Gasnier.
Maloney is the most penalised player in the NRL...he would have to fix that and promise not to be a distraction at training etc before we sign him.
