The thread has nothing to do with Cody Walker I just used him as an example asking if people would be so concerned about concussion of a player if it was not a Roosters player. Anyway I will leave it at that Roc, Ive said what I needed to say.

According to TR in an article at NRL.COM Cronk was rested because he had been trained very hard / extra hard in the week before the game to make up for training he missed early in the season.

That would be ridiculous and I doubt it. I think we rested him because of a niggling injury. Why would you rest someone after a hard training session, the idea of hard training sessions is to get fit and if he can’t handle hard sessions then he isn’t fit which is a worry.

That comment is ridiculous. They train hard sometimes and not other times. It's about peaking at the right time and Robbo has it down. In fact, by how they played against Newcastle I think they trained really hard during the week knowing they would have a few days off for the bye.

Dark days ahead I hope Luke gets appropriate treatment

He has gifted us a premiership, I wish a great life ahead for him with or without playing

Cronk didn't have a full pre-season due to his surgery. The Roosters identified this period leading into a bye where they could give Cronk a mini pre season to build up his fitness base and he wouldn't partake in the Round 11 game as risk of injury would be increased due to nature of the training.

It's not about him not being able to handle hard training sessions.

Watch Robinson's post match conference from last week. He explains all in that.

Taking a quick timeline on Keary's concussion. The big knock was when Sitili crashed into him at training in February last year and broke his cheekbone. He gets kaoyed mid-October, six months later.

Another six months later he goes down again in April against the Storm and now Newcastle - end of May - around six weeks later.

If there's a pattern at all, it's that these incidences are coming closer, and he may require at least a couple of months. This will put his conditioning and fitness all astray, plus his timing etc leading into the end of season games. Obviously I am describing a worst case scenario. My question - Keary aside for the moment - is where is our plan B?

Do we have the talent within the club and do we have the roster flexibility for a short term purchase that could cover. Now I don't know whether anyone has mentioned this, or even whether it is feasible. So I am ready for the approaching humiliation. James Maloney anyone...if at all possible. What are your thoughts on possible replacements if it comes to that.

Wouldn't say no to Jimmy if the money was right as well as being a good 5/8 we all know he's a great goal kicker.

Here’s one out of left field. Todd Carney?

Jimmy for a season to replace Cronk next year isn't a bad idea. It gives Lam abit more time to cook. He isn't quite ready. It will take the pressure off Keary.

if I was Lamb I would look to the SL to bring new life back to my career.

Carney turns 34 next year, so it's possible he's passed his use by date. Still, the guy could play, and maybe he has one more year in him. Advantage is that he'd be cheap. You'd figure he would have lost some speed and wouldn't be a great defender, but he might be able to do a specific job for a year. In the choice between Lam and Carney for next year it's not clear cut who's best - although I've still got time for Lam and, obviously, he has more of a future.

If we could afford Jimmy, without losing anyone else, then I'd take him.

                          • Thanks for the answers and to Roosterchick I hadn't thought of Carney. Could he cope with the speed of NTL these days. It's been a good eight years since he played with us. But to be honest (now there's a Bellamy cliche LOL) I haven't seen a lot him in superleague of wherever he lurks these days.

My thoughts are Robbo will lean toward Lachlan Lam with Cooper's assistance. Lam has more of a running game than Brock Lamb from what I have seen. He is more similar to Keary in style of play. Jimmy is closer still and there are rumours he wants out. I would imagine that if we could lock down someone like Jimmy Maloney before the June 30 deadline that it may involves a player swap too.But he knows the players and was often seen at Roosters games after he switched to the Sharks..

"Bondi-bobbydazzler" boy Jimmy, running off SBW for that faaabulous try in the 2013 Grand Final...I'd have him back in a heartbeat.
Not swapping JWH, Tetevano, or any other top shelf player for him though.
We could back end his contract...pay him $50,000 for this year, then fix that up after Cronk's gone...like Bennett and Merge did in 2010 with Gasnier.

Maloney is the most penalised player in the NRL...he would have to fix that and promise not to be a distraction at training etc before we sign him.
