  • Paul Green whinging about refs

Yes I know its not roosters related, but who honestly reads the other forums.

Paul Green's entire presser having a drama attack about the penalty try. Phil Gould also acted like this was the worst decision in history and that he had "been taken away to another planet".

Yes Gus you are indeed on another planet, but not for the reasons you think.

Why do NRL coaches have to act and talk so stupid in a desperate attempt to deflect from their side (and their coaching) not being good enough?

The guy gets whacked in the jaw as he's about to score - but because there is a separate act of raking the ball out immediately afterwards, Green (and Gould) think there is no connection between the 2 acts and it is outrageous that a penalty try is awarded.

I think some of these simpletons like Green and Gould are not only biased, but also ignorant of the modern interpretation of a penalty try. The ref doesn't have to be CERTAIN a try would be scored, but merely convinced the try would probably have been scored if not for the illegal act.

This condition was satisfied and the right decision was made. Had the guy not had his head taken off there is every chance he would have had the strength to resist the ball being stripped by his attacker, and I'm sure this was what the bunker (for once) sensibly ruled.

We have the classiest coach by far in the NRL.

Green is a pathetic little whinger.

I thought it was a penalty try. If you're smashed in the head of course it's going to affect your ability to hold onto the ball.

A tigers player grounded it after the rake anyway, so even if they didn't give the penalty try it was a tigers try anyway?

a clearer cut penalty try i have yet to see, green is just whingeing , because after his 2015 premiership he has recruited poorly and managed his roster worse ie letting ponga go...his head is on the chopping block and he knows it ...angry midget

Matto’s try clearly came from a knock on. Wasn’t even referred to the bunker so I’d be having a whinge too if I was Green. Pretty frustrating when they usually send the most obvious tries to the bunker. Anyway it all adds to the entertainment of the rugby league circus.

ahhhh the joys of having Ben Cummins as referee.......Paul Green is feeling the pain that Roosters supporters have been feeling for years. If Matterson was still in a chooks jersey then i can guarantee Ben Cummins would have sent it to the video ref with " check for offside from the kick, a knock on, interference, put down....something anything!!! "

                Watched this game,

Cummins was appyling his usual "off his head" interpretations of the game,
When will he ever put in a normal performance
                "Sigh"

Drives more people away from the NRL, more like it.
Foxtel is losing hundreds of millions of dollars per year...reportedly.
                  Customers are walking away..reportedly.

Not many fans at games so far this weekend.
Soon the stadiums will be empty.

NRL...broom needs sweeping thru the place.

Fans don't mind losing, if the refereeing / bunker is fair and mistake-free.

                      Exactly.

But according to Green's logic, that wasn't a penalty try either, as there was a mathematical possibility that the fouled player might have died of natural causes anyway and not scored.

                        Lol...

I think Zac hit the key point that the illegal tackle would have contributed to the lost ball one second later. Some judges are trying to separate the two incidents.

Cummins awarding Matterson's try is so Cummins.
I thought Morgan was dogshite though and butchered everything including the golden point toss!

Annesely came out today saying he didn't have a problem with the penalty try being awarded.

Also said that Cummins was obviously wrong not referring Matto's try to the bunker. If the choice is between having to wait up to a minute for the right decision, or 'letting the game flow' and relying on the ref's judgement, put me down to wait for the right decision. I never complain when a decision is checked.

The bunker has reduced the time it takes to make a decision this year. Perhaps they should routinely check every try as soon as it is scored. That would save time. But we mightn't be ready for the bunker to over rule a ref if he hasn't referred the decision.
