  • 'Roosters pay his bills, not NSW': Snubbed Mitchell could re-assess Origin future

OK - the SMH got me. I clicked and read this article. Nothing in it supports the suggestion that Latrell is considering making himself unavailable. Nothing. But be assured this will have commentators in a spin about Latrell sulking or spitting the dummy out.

What was interesting were the comments from his father about how great Robbo and Nick have been with Latrell.

I'm thinking players are unable to make themselves unavailable for Origin until they're near the end of their careers.

With the way Freddy/Gould continued to put the boot into Latrell after SOO1 I would be surprised if he played SOO again while Freddy is coach.

They can make themselves unavailable whenever they choose. Jamie Lyon played for years after he decided not to play SOO anymore

Brett Stuart did it and played on?

LOL yeah why do they troll their readers with that line?

It's like the crooked strata company that manages one of my investment properties (an apartment). They are called 'Independent' (capital 'I') and at quite literally EVERY strata meeting they are like 'we hired an Independent painter, an Independent cleaning company, an Independent handyman...etc and now we're gonna raise the levy by 30% so that we can raise money to check whether the aluminium cladding is okay... ooooh no... we strictly cannot sue the builder [who owns us] because the materials were definitely compliant at the time... most certainly!!!'

Or back in law school... I challenged the grades that this idiot eastern European lecturer (no Aussie law degree and a questionable foreign one, but she was sleeping with the head of school [who hooked her up with the job and was under fire for doing so], so you had to be careful of both). I walked in and gently asked for a breakdown of how she'd calculated a bollocks 'class participation' mark (worth 20% which she'd given me 2/20 for because I quit her stupid mooting team... an unrelated activity), bumping me down from an HD to a pass. Instantly she started screaming at me and saying 'HOW DARE YOU QUESTION MY ACADEMIC INDEPENDENCE!!! I AM INDEPENDENT!! I GRADED YOU INDEPENDENTLY AND THIS WAS NOT PERSONAL!!!' I was like 'eeeerm I never said that, I just asked you for a breakdown of the mark so that I can do better next time'. This dragged on for 18 months (well past my graduation) because the 'independent' head of school backed her all the way. After graduating (first class honours so it had zero impact on my final grades) the dean of education called me in and was like 'I received your complaint... here's a new copy of your transcript, do you agree with your new mark for this subject? The eastern European lady is no longer with the uni and we have a new head of the law school... old head has been moved sideways... shhhhh okay?' I still wasn't happy due to the lack of procedure/independence in what happened there. But... I did take the new transcript and run

The word independent shytes me if you didn't notice

Freddie's treatment of Latrell has been abysmal. I would understand completely if he refused to play whilst he was coach

But that would also rule him out of playing for Australia

Mitchell's mother Patricia, meanwhile, told Nine on Monday night her son had been affected by several deaths in the family the past couple of months, including the loss of two aunties, a cousin and great uncle.

Goolagong also said Mitchell was affected by his brother Lionel having to face court charged with assault following an alleged pub incident in April where both were present. She said the pair had been ‘‘racially abused all night’’.
Glad I read the article. I had no idea about any of that. Fittler's comments about Mitchell finding his smile makes some sense now.

Same. How could you just go back and play a single game for that guy after what he's done and said publicly? No matter what Latrell's form is like, Freddy's bagging of him is beyond unprofessional. It sounds personal. I actively dislike the guy now, and I didn't think that was possible for me.

I think Latrell will play Origin again. I don't think Fittler will be coach when that happens though.

Did you see their "independence" in the pre-election coverage? Their self talk had Shorton policies and Hard Labor over the line...

If Freddy comes calling on Latrell for game 3 (which I doubt because Freddy has lost the plot already this year) then if I was Latrell I would use the same excuse as Pearce, in other words my groin or hip is playing up and I wouldn't be able to train.

Come to think of it, Freddy had a good honeymoon year when he was roosters coach and then he lost the plot completely. Seems that history may be repeating again for freddy this time with the blues.

I don't think there's any truth to Mitchell not wanting to be part of the Blues again but I definitely think there's some bridges there that need to be repaired.

The current group of coaches and advisers not only hung him out to dry but have continued to fuel the fire.

I keep hearing them talking about accountability and effort, lets flip that 180 and talk about the responsibilities of a leader. There's been no leadership from this NSW camp by throwing a 21yo under the bus, it's embarrassing and quite frankly every player working underneath that leadership group would be concerned about the way one of their co-workers has just been treated as it could just as easily happen to them. That's not a good culture, that's not a good environment.

I loved Freddy as a player but it's easy to see how he lost the respect of the playing group in 2009.

Personal experience with Freddy I tell you the guy is an absolute dick.
Great Roosters player and all and thanks to him for what he did for us but he could not manage a Chook raffle. Complete idiot.

It will be good to have both Latrell and Crighton now available for the Tigers game.
