  • Daily Telegraph interview with Latrell

Must say this is the closest Latrell has come to saying he will be staying with the Roosters long term, also looks like his family is moving to Sydney to help him.

Really good to see him talk about wanting to create the same legacy as Mini and also the bit about how Maubs has been helping him during this rough patch.

Very comforting to read that, he’s a good bloke. I trust that he’ll make the right decisions by this club. I reckon he’ll turn it on for the rest of the year, just to prove people like Freddy wrong.

That article should make any Easts supporters weekend a lot more comfortable. Thanks Trell.

It must be such a hard position for players to be in.

If you come out and say you something like that it puts you in a really weak bargaining position.

You can see him wrestling with it every time he talks. He will say something like my heart is in the east, I want to be a one club player and then balance it with something like but I'll leave it up to my manager and we'll look at offers when it's time.

His new manager also is trying to raise Pongas price too. Sounds like a tactic to get a quick earner for Rushton

Maybe I am being negative when everyone else is seeing the positive in this article but when he says he is going to wait until November and see what the offer are I am seeing a big red flag here. Obviously the money is a big factor in his future career decisions. I wouldn’t be overly confident of the Chooks being able to secure him as they have already said they won’t get into a bidding war. I would hate to think that if he’s determined to wait for the offers then maybe it will be another RTS scenario.

Its what football is now about, pure and simple. A rampant media looking to flog content By any means possible, clubs chasing a superstar to turn around there fortunes quickly (and who can blame them chasing Latrell). It’s a circus and it can distract. What most of us, the journos and the other clubs don’t know is what really goes on in the confines of the great ESDRLFC. Latrell is really well coached and supported, he clearly wants to stay but ultimately the money has to be around the mark to allow all those others things to be the deal maker, that is the reality of the situation and all the other social media diatribe is just noise and distraction.
Sometimes you can do really well in a job and take those same skills to a different job and not do as well because it’s a different context. Same person, same skills but different support, coaching, processes and styles. Latrell knows this and knows he is doing well at Easts because of it, he just needs a competitive offer. That’s the hard bit with Butcher, SST, Jared, Friendy and Manu also in the same boat. It’s modern football.

Id rather him wait till November-he has backed himself. The second half of the season will determine what the Roosters will think he is worth going forward.....remembering he isn't the only player needing a contract upgrade.

Whatever he chooses then so be it.I think we are all guilty of reacting to a players performance after he leaves the club. Michael Jennings had 3 years at the Roosters for a premiership and 3 minor premierships scoring 44 tries in 70 odd games. When he left no one complained too much and because he has done nothing at Parra no one has started complaining. When Maloney left it was the same thing...until he had success at the Sharks then we were all pissed off about him being let go.

Moral of my boring post is NO ONE in any aspect of life can't be replaced

Latrell wants to stay; we want to keep him. He wants to get the upper range of what we're willing to give him; we have other players we want to re-sign.

There's room for negotiation but no cause for alarm at this stage.

I believe that Latrell wants to stay and that's great that his heart is with the Roosters.... but the more he says that he wants to stay, the harder other clubs will have to try in order to get him to leave - and so the higher the offers will be.

Yeah Maubs would be a good mentor. My best mentors have always been journeymen who haven't necessarily reached lofty heights in their careers, but have mastered the daily grind.

From our perspective, it's great that he mentions Mini, Cords, Friend and JWH while noting he's setup his family home in the eastern suburbs... obviously all of them have made the decision to stay (and have been solid!) so he has the right people in his ears. Great to see those boys buying into our institution/culture too though. Nothing worse than all the middle managers at work bagging the organisation and saying 'GET OUT ASAP!!'

“The eastern suburbs is my home. I’ve bought a beautiful house. I got my family to move here and look after me." this indicated to me he planned to stay for the long haul

                          Napa lives in Rose Bay.
I reckon Latrell is going nowhere but the fact that he bought this house means nothing. I’m sure he has a car too.

The reportedly low salary he is on in 2020 gives the Roosters plenty of negotiating power. They could conceivably offer him another $400K next year to compensate for any offer from rivals that is above the Roosters' offer for 2021 and beyond.

As for talk of 10 year contracts, does anyone know what the world's best player will be earning in 2031? They might be paying ballboys a million a year then.

Considering how bad he has been playing, he is currently the NRLs leading point scorer
