They bought Gulavao from Penrith, too old and Rose from us and got more from hm than we did. I think it's the culture of winning there is more prevalent there than at Bondi. Our culture is a bit Rancho Relaxo. that's some of the reasons.

Manly seem to have a habit of winning Grand Finals when they make them Since 72 they have played in 13 winning 8 and losing 5 Easts on the other hand have a habit of losing Grand Finals that they make Since 72 they have played in 9 Grand Finals winning 3 and losing 6 I also think we have lost more Grand Finals than any other club

They have a top coach which is a huge benefit, something we have been lacking in greatly for a long time.

One difference is that the Manly coach has total control over all the decision making regarding recruitment and player behaviour. Their private owners have in the past fallen into line behind him. Cracks are appearing though and I don't reckon Hasler will be there after next year unless that changes. He is a control freak who doesn't like any interference from anyone.

Contrast that with the Roosters where Uncle Nick and his merry men interfere constantly and undermine the coach's authority. Where everything from recruitment to player punishments are decided by individuals other than the ones who should be making them. The coach just has to accept the cards he's dealt.

Hasler wouldn't last a season at the Roosters under our current structure - he'd walk out in frustration and disgust.

Mostly it was just a media driven thing, pumping them up yearly, saying they were pre-cum favorites.

Manly bashed us off the park in both our games this year. Foran did it single-handedly in the first game.

Manly backs like Foran, Matai and Lyons hit harder than most forwards in the comp.

Manly had a real attitude in defence this year that no other team came close too. Now they are the well-deserved champs.

Seriously, like us a glamour beachside club and a junior base almost as bad as us. We are way more financially stronger than them yet modern records prove they are vastly superior to us. Since the 70's they have won 8 premierships yet we only have 3.

They lack the infrastructure and train in some backwards park. So what is it, what have they got that we lack? They win at least a comp every decade whereas we win one every 27 yrs.

I know I am chiming in late here but the period you are comparing is pretty arbitrary. To me the post Super League period needs to be considered separately to pre-96 as that is when the game went fully professional. IMO you cant compare the last 15 years to the 70s or 80s in the way that footy clubs are run, and therefore results.

Having said that, they have twice the number of premierships we have in the post Super League era.
