  • Robbo's interview (Tigers)

Just listened to Robbo's most recent post-match interview and thought I'd summarise a few points coz I got a lot of insight out of it (thought it was a good one):
    - He gave the Tigpies a lot of praise... apparently they were at like 98% completions for most of the game despite doing lots of clever passing between their back early on in the sets. I thought we played shyte but he's right... Tigpies are coming off a couple of decent wins and a big feature of the game was that it never stopped. We beat an almost perfect team when it came to completions! (A few late errors are the only thing that skewed their stats).
    - The bench was our difference. He gave Crichton, Sitili and Verrills (Crichton in particular for his speed and power) a looot of praise. Seems like a bit of a tactic there that our bench is a faster, more mobile bench, aimed at taking back the momentum.
    - Friend's return is imminent.
    - He's really impressed by Hall and Toops. Loves the metres they are gaining and reckons Hall's very impressive compared to where he should be at with the ACL. He almost says he recruited Hall for those metres (Hall runs the most metres every year). Given how he turned Fergo's game around, I reckon Robbo basically wants 2 big, fast wingers to be making 200+ metres a game. Tries are great but those metres are a real thing.
    - He's really happy with Latrell's form and reckons the commentary about his 'slump' is a load of bullshyte. He creates most opportunities himself and doesn't need Keary to perform (although it happens to be a good combo).
    - Keary's a bit dusty but played well.

Maybe I'm reading into this too much but Robbo seemed pleased with where we're at, the talent that's coming through and the details that individuals are showing. IMO he has a big focus on playing positively and eating up a lot of metres with the ball in hand. The interview made me more confident that we're heading in the right direction...

Good sum up. Yes, I was impressed how he dismissed the hype about Latrell's "slump", and his supposed dependence on Keary as being "very poor". Clearly aimed at journos and perhaps SOO selectors.

Also impressed by Maguire as a coach and a decent human. I was biased against him when he was at Souffs. I've heard numerous good reports from people who've personally met him also. Fancy swapping him for Seibold?? Must really be a toxic atmosphere in Rusty Town.

I find it really hard to understand people who dislike someone because they are at Souths or the Storm but then suddenly if they end up at the Roosters or at another club they are then alright. The game of footy has & always will have all sorts of characters & that is what makes the game so good. Some on here will find my comments offensive but guess what I dont give a fark what you think.

It was a good win against a side that threw a bit at us.
He should be happy with our performance
                    ..it’ll be interesting to see

This is under rated IMO. We like to play 'live ball' - return kicks before they ave a chance to set their line and bring fatigue into the game. This means we need a strong kick return, strong tackle 2 and in most cases, strong tackle 3. If your back three arent getting metres then its the 4th by the time your playing footy.

Nah, any coach that instructs his players to take out the opposition star player is not a decent human.
