If it was up to Keary I think he would pick QLD to play for in SOO but the criteria has him as a NSWelshman so its NSW or nothing.

Keary:
- Was born in QLD and lived there until the age of 10.
- Aged 10 he went to Sydney and played yawnion for a cr@ppy small, independent school (Oak Hill - we always played them pre-season and smashed them so he musta been REALLY good... like their 1 frigging awesome player!)
- Keary went to high school in Sydney for like 6-7 years, played yawnion for NSW, played league for NSW and then left school aged 17 (he's a February kid so woulda finished year 12 aged 17).
- During school Keary also played footy for the Hills Bulls. But like, he was only in the Hills district for ~6 years.
- Aged 17 Keary went to uni in QLD, during which time he played in the QLD cup.
- After a year in the QLD cup, an 18 y/o Luke Keary signed with the Rabbitohs, played a year of NYC and was very quickly promoted to their 1st grade squad in 2013.
The Origin selection rules (https://www.nrl.com/siteassets/docum...lity-rules.pdf) say...
- Which State were you born in?
Keary - QLD
- In which State did you play Rugby League for the majority of years from U/6 - U/18?
Keary - NSW
- In which State of Australia did you spend the majority of years at School? (K-12)
Keary - NSW
- In which State did you first participate in a Junior Representative Competition?
Keary - NSW
- For which State of Australia did you first play School State Representative Rugby League?
Keary - NSW
- Did your Father play State of Origin and if so, for whom?
No.
Thus, we get this ridiculous position where a guy who was born in QLD, lived there until the age of 10 and buggered off aged 17 to play footy in QLD can't play for QLD.
WHY? Because some fukking idiot made the rules to stop guys like GI, Folau and a heap of other dudes playing for QLD. The criteria's stupid and should just be 'where do you wanna play?' However, after losing 2 years in a row, QLD cooked up a plan to poach the next generation of players from NSW. They got them all (while starving NSW of talent by doing so), won 10 years in a row and now that NSW has won 2 years in a row QLD's trying to cry poor again. Fuk QLD is all I can say. You made your bed, now lie in it. This is your punishment for stealing players from NSW. You've won 10 years in a row so I've got no sympathy that we've just won a couple. Toughen up QLD!

Maybe he wants to play for Qld because he saw the loyalty shown ( not) to his team mate Lattrell after one poor game, and we all know that had Lattrell being playing for Qld he would not have been dropped.
Now NSW winning SOO and everyone is saying Fittler has been justified, but I stil think the way Mitchell was treated and openly criticised was wrong, and I did not approve of Fittler's behaviour.
I'll keep watch over the next 10 years and see how much Wighton achieves in the game and compare it to Mitchell, and my money is on our Coq proving the doubters wrong and have his name etched in the league history books as a champion.
