    You mean like Gasnier?

    But not in this case.

He is being signed for three years as a "second tier" contract.

Which means he is treated as though he is outside the top 25 players.

    What a joke.

And I wish him nothing but the worst for the rest of his career.

Not just how it all went down.

        That is bad enough.

But the fact that they are only going to claim $70K on the cap for a player that was the best in the game last season.

        It's a joke.

        And unfortunately it's on us.
I reckon you are looking at the situation the wrong way JT..

CARNTey was badly exposed as a defensive liability this year..His deficiencies were on par with Sandows by the time he lost the plot..

His running game was rubbish too..The good teams worked out that he was just going to run straight towards the sideline,as he had lost the courage & confidence to take the line on..

If the Titans do sign him,i hope they defend him next to Idris..That side will leak that many points it would be ridiculous..

CARNTey in defence makes Eion Crossan look like Cement Gillespie..

He is past tense to me now..And the threat he could pose to our team if he ends up playing against us doesn't worry me either..

He is a massive waste of talent..And he isn't getting any younger..

I see it like this Carney was bashed around by the Tele by day 1 and they never relented so decided he wanted to get away from Sydney.
I blame the powers be at our club they never protected him from it did they? Look at Hasler and their club how they defended their blokes in trouble and come out of it with a premiership .
Our Mangement of players sucks simple as that.

              Yes.

According to most forumites here he was absolutely pathetic this season and the reason we finished where we did.
Should a 'turnstile' and 'pathetic-form' player be paid more than $70,000?

Maybe the NRL is allowing it so he can get a start somewhere...AFL looms large...and 'duty of care' could play a part, if you get my drift.
Or maybe because it doesn't want the Titans to fold...would be the second GC team to do so.
              He draws a crowd.

$70,000 on the cap for him is a bit low though, given his past contracts and 'mediocre' form when injured this year.

Obviously it's a special deal of some sort...special deals have happened before.

              I wish him well.
I happily rode the Carney express last year, when he did some amazing things for us.
2011 didn't work out so well, and we parted company.

He's a bit like a 'lucky dip' and 'lottery', you never know what will happen.
              Isn't footy exciting?

How do you know that happened? Or are you just making stuff up? It seems incredibly unlikely, that a coach wouldn't want a player who was pretty much the best player in the world at the time.

Because Carney was on the drink 3 months straight after the Gf and was already splitting the place up

Several clubs have offered him deals including Souths and the Sharks who have all probably tabled deals more than the modest offering presented by the Titans.

Whilst it somehow wouldn't surprise me him and his 'bffl' Myles may have thought of this, the dots arent connecting?
No I don't think you're missing anything. Everyone else is putting 2 & 2 together and getting 7 but you have seen the obvious. To suggest someone would deliberately sabotage their $500k a year to get 70 somewhere else is pretty stupid. Even if its a backloaded contract its still too stupid to be true.

Those boys woulda just gone to the pub for a sneaky one which obviousy went down well so they snuck in one more...and eventually it becomes a bender. A pretty common scenario for anyone who likes a beer. The alcohol tells you you'll be right you won't get busted so you keep going.

People reading way too much into it.

Yep that's what everything seems to point to. He was causing friction amongst the team way back in the pre-season with his massive 3 month bender. Smith had had enough and he had the support of many in the team. Others supported Carney. Allegedly Nick stepped in and backed Carney which caused a massive rift in the team because there were many who considered Carney was getting off easily in the supposed 'New Beginning New Attitude' era. Then followed more instances with Carney with the DUI etc. And at this satge Carney would have known that the coach and some of his teammates wanted him sacked so he wouldn't have been a very happy camper. I want to know if it was true that Myles was one who wanted him sacked back then, because if he did, he's certainly had a change of heart since.

Why are we still talking about this selfish prick? I honestly don't understand the fixation. He's gone so let's just move onwards and upwards.

If its a choice between two footballers brilliantly hatching, orchestrating and executing a scheme or two thickheaded footballers not abiding by club rules and going out for drinks and not thinking about or worried about their actions
...... I think one of those scenarios is more plausible !
