Robbo is a diplomat. He has watered down all the controversy the same way he did when RTS decided to defect.
He doesn’t want this situation to derail our run to the big show. Very professional. You can bet your life that underneath Robbo is very pissed off by O’Brien doing this 3 weeks out from the finals though.

If he helps us to another Prem, it’ll be 4 he’s been a major contributor to.
That O’Brien is a ho’Making Steve Naughton look like Vince Mellars...

O'Brien should have told Robbo what was going on a month ago when his manager first started meeting with the Knights.
When the news broke on Wednesday O'Brien decided avoiding phone calls was the best approach to take.
Seibold and O'Brien are from the same Issac Moses school of greed..say anything to get what you want.
Fitzy didn't go to that school neither did Robbo they went to the decent honest bloke school.

It's pretty far north though - almost Sydney. If you can find a job and still live there you're pretty set.
Fitzy's staying though. It's Adam who's going. He was approached by the Knights so I presume the interview's a mere formality.
Good luck to him. It's a big step-up and way different from being an assistant coach at the Storm/Roosters. The exact opposite TBH! Rather than being eased in with established systems and an established coach who has already won premierships... there's no systems and you're being pushed right into the deep end. We'll see how he goes I guess.

Presuming O'Brien is in the picture, which he hasn't yet denied, I felt it was tough that Robbo had to field the questions that O'Brien should have been answering. Although that may have also been the Roosters direction that Adam button up while the media speculation rides.
If O'Brien and Newcastle have been negotiating for some weeks, then it is obviously off putting at this stage of the season. My understanding was that he signed a three year contract with us. If that also had get out clauses it's pretty obvious what his ambition was.
A season or two under Trent just to add to the CV, as the Roosters do have prodigious talent. We won't know until Newcastle announce who's got to the job, which they may deliberately delay until the premiership is over. But Brownie's early announcement that he's pulled the plug, may have unveiled ongoing secret dealings. He seemed pretty pissed at his press conference. Covering something.
Then you've got to wonder whether it is worthwhile having someone on staff, who's already cast their vision elsewhere and may be secretly poaching our own young stars for the future. And that's where the LOYALTY factor really counts.Last edited by Louis N; 08-24-2019, 12:37 PM.

As Robbo put it... all assistant coaches wanna be head coaches and nobody's gonna hold them back. IMO it is what it is and Adam's probably just as keen as everybody else to get on with the job.
Loyalty? It's never done me any good. Early on in my career, for example, a manager said 'oh nooo don't apply for a [pretty small] promotion!! That promotion's not around for you and the others who joined around the same time as you, it's just for the high-paid contractors who want permanent jobs... I'm running one for you guys in a couple of months'. EVERYBODY except me applied, EVERYBODY who applied got the promotion, I was treated as if I were inferior as a result (because I was now 'junior' to all my peers... despite being a high performer who had been 'loyal' to the boss). As it turned out, there were no more promotion rounds for the next 3 years because the economy went south. Meanwhile, all of those 'disloyal' people not only got promoted, they were all given acting duties as managers, so it was like a double kick in the bollocks for me. I've remembered this throughout my career and it's why I NEVER feel guilty about being 'disloyal' when I know I'll get fukked over if I'm 'loyal'.
If employers were loyal then I'd buy into the whole 'loyalty' story but they're not. O'Brien woulda been out the door as soon as we had a shyte season. He's one poor season away from being a nobody. Thus, he's gotta make hay while the sun shines, take his chances (Knights head coach is no easy job - MASSIVE risk given where every other Knights coach has gone during the last decade) and take the best opportunities. IMO anybody who's bitter about him doing this has either never worked or has been gifted a linear career where they've just taken the gold escalator to the top. IMO anybody who has had a career during the last 50 years will understand his decision.Last edited by ism22; 08-24-2019, 04:34 PM.
