No doubt...the media love this stuff. Adam might well be a blow in...as long as he doesn't lead to a Roosters blow out. I am talking taking players with him. Getting to be an unholy alliance this Roosters Knights 'connection.
As Robbo put it... all assistant coaches wanna be head coaches and nobody's gonna hold them back. IMO it is what it is and Adam's probably just as keen as everybody else to get on with the job.
No-one's knocking ambition. But without a few handshake deals and players taking unders for the sake of the team and their mates, there would be no stability. We have 4 players JWH, Friendy, Cordner and Aubusson who've been around for eight years together. Any of our great sides from the 70's onward have depended upon that years of combination basis.
Loyalty? It's never done me any good. Early on in my career, for example, a manager said 'oh nooo don't apply for a [pretty small] promotion!! That promotion's not around for you and the others who joined around the same time as you, it's just for the high-paid contractors who want permanent jobs... I'm running one for you guys in a couple of months'. EVERYBODY except me applied, EVERYBODY who applied got the promotion, I was treated as if I were inferior as a result (because I was now 'junior' to all my peers... despite being a high performer who had been 'loyal' to the boss). As it turned out, there were no more promotion rounds for the next 3 years because the economy went south. It's why I NEVER feel guilty about being 'disloyal' when I know I'll get fukked over if I'm 'loyal'.
Sounds like a toxic environment. Sorry to hear, but it's sadly not uncommon. But as my good lady advises me, 'Since when has a rugby league club showed loyalty?' after advising me to get over it LOL
If employers were loyal then I'd buy into the whole 'loyalty' story but they're not. O'Brien woulda been out the door as soon as we had a shyte season. He's one poor season away from being a nobody.
Again that's a good point. But if he is gone, then I am hoping that there's little damage to the bumper, and no disruption. Love to know what Nick Politis thinks, as I believe him and Trent have rebuilt the club on loyalty. We don't hear many ex Roosters knocking our great club and we've had our share of Hastings and Pearce dramas. One loyal handshake from SBW virtually won us a premiership
O'Brien has done nothing wrong it's just a media beat up. The Roosters always knew that O'Brien would leave & take up a head coaching role at another NRL club, he has not gone behind the back of the Roosters. And Im telling youse that St George have spoken to Fitzy & he will be coaching the Dragons next year IMO.
