If the sharks do sign carney which is more then likely , I'd be quite happy to take wade Graham off the sharks and play him at 5/8 with Pearce at half back ..
That kid can play, very brad fittler like size strength can ball play and is still very young , I doubt it would happen but I'd love to see him in the number 6 for the chooks

agree. there are a few talented kids they have on their books that i wouldnt mind us having a crack at. in terms of young halves, they have stacks of talent. graham, kelly and townsend are all excellent young players who could all fit well for us. Another player that this could allow us to make a play for is gardner especially considering he was in and out of favor with flannagan. In another twist, i still would like to see the offcontract greg bird with us for next season instead of SBW and his only other rumoured realistic location was cronulla which if carney goes there is highly unlikely.

on the topic of graham however, my concern is that he is a more anasta style 5/8 - ie 5/8 who could play backrow so im not sure if he is exactly the type of half we need but imo his game is more similar to that of anasta than to that of fittler. Id prefer kelly or townsend - kelly in the carney flamboyant off the cuff 5/8 type half and townsend who could slot into 7 and do an excellent job allowing pearce to play wider. both also have lesser reputations which would mean that they would demand far less than graham.

I thought whenever he came in when Dugan was out he did really well imho.
pretty good little player as well but gagai offers a little more imo. In the ball playing stakes they are equal imo but gagai has a bit of extra pace, is better on his feet and is a better support player. Its no secret that what we need over the next couple of years is a fullback, 5/8, an extra forward (either workhorse prop or marquee backrower) and maybe an outside back depending on how tagive, henry and moga come on this year.

For fullback, gagai is my ideal pick. For the forward, i would be going gang busters for mcguire. For 5/8 anyone out of graham, townsend, kelly, foran, maloney, johnson, tuimavave, widdopp

I do see what you mean about Graham , he may come across as an anasta type player but I assure u he's got a whole lot more to offer at 5/8 then anasta ever did, he actually grew up as a halfback I no this coz he was 2 years younger then me at school footy and for a different school a few of the younger guys told us about him before we seen him play..
And from what I've seen and been told he's got the whole package for a 5/8 , he's got a good kicking game, excellent running game and can play before and at the line...

U must remember he is still very young 20 yrs old and at penrith and the sharks hasn't had anyone take him under he's wing and teach him how to guide a team around the park , I think at the roosters we could have fittler all over him and teach him the ins and outs of being a world class 5/8..
I think Graham needs a good off season and maybe trim down a little and he will explode..

And back to the other young halves at Cronulla , I wouldn't even think about signing Albert Kelly terrible attitude has been in trouble several times.. He has shown some freakish talent but don't think he's consistent enough and is a turnstile in defence...

Townsend could be a possible superstar with the right coaching, I don't see Pearce excelling out wider like people say, doesn't have that explosive running game like a carney I think he's best suited to organizing around the ruck and he's kicking game

Perhaps It' not a drill that Smith puts them through at training, most clubs are proficient at the tactic, hardly falls into the science of Quantum Mechanics. Maybe Elliott will address our lack of fore-sight during the off season.

all very true and i agree - I hope that graham is what you say he is and I would be happy if we did in fact get him (he is also left footed which would complement right footers pearce and friend) but that said, from what I have seen of him, he doesnt have the speed, creativity or sharpness on his feet that fittler did. He does have all the skills but on first glance, we have seen how uncreative pearce and anasta are together and I just get the feeling that graham is a similar enough player to anasta to not solve this problem which is why i floated kelly as an alternative because he is more in the carney mold which is the style of player that seems to flourish outside carney and considering kelly in a year younger than graham, I think guys like fitzy, JT, smithy and elliott could get him back on the straight and narrow but his defence is definitely questionable. Similarly I would have my reservations about townsend as well partnering up with pearce but all of these options are possible. Hopefully if we do end up landing 1 of the 3 they fit in seamlessly
