Do you think so Trewella? Your insight is profound.

    • they could upgrade someones contract for next year and front end it a little more to keep them around (just a theory)... I guess we'll all find out next week but if sbw comes back to league i don't think it will be till 2013 if he does... he'll take the money in union next year and see if the cap goes up... plus he doesn't have to deal with the bulldogs contract drama then

With back-ended and front loaded contracts, and all the hidden clauses of today's game, contracts no longer work on a year to year basis.

At a guess, it's possible players are owed back ended money in 2012, or need to be given money early in 2012 to ensure we're under the cap in 2013...

        • I am glad they let Ryles go.

He gives away too many penalties and there are a lot of younger forwards we need to secureeeee.

          • I was initially annoyed by this release, but I'm coming around to it. Kennedy and Cordner have leadership qualities, about time Maubs started talking on the field more and we all know Jake is a little machine that won't slack off. We have also added Fitzy to the coaching staff who has one of the biggest hearts and motors to ever play for us, he'll keep them fit, I think we'll be fine.

              Are you blind freddy?

              • I am disappointed to see Ryles go but understand if he wanted more money. I never would have thought to sign him in the first place but the Roosters got great value out of him. He is a better footballer than I thought he was pre-Roosters. It's a shame he could not have been the old head in 2012 to guide our young lions.

MK is the real deal and will be Queensland SOO prop for many years. I would like to see Tasi be the other starting prop and have always thought of JWH as a second rower.

                • Jwh is a must at lock now. I'd like to see him playing 60+ minutes a game. It's a massive call but he could be our Paul Gallen if we groom him properly

Agree, or even 40 minutes between him and Cordner.

i agree. dollar bill will take a twelve month akl blues/nz blacks union deal and then yhoder will unleash the hounds and decide between nfl nrl nba netball afl france japan cricket oztag etc for 2013

we are all talking about the grant and cap increase as though we are the only club to get. most of it gets eaten up by compulsorily lifting existing salaries

I'd like to see SBW open the batting with Martin Guptill, probably in T20 at first then moving on to one dayers.

Yeah it amazes me how so many people (not just here, but supporters in general) seem to talk about the expected cap increase, like its a bottomless pit of extra funds which their club will have to spend on buying an endless stream of new players.

As you say, most of it will most likely go toward topping up existing player contracts !
