IMO, A step in the right direction, Our young forwards are coming of age. Aubusson, Anasta and Craig Fitzgibbons influence will be plenty enough motivation and experience. Will also relieve some cap space, this should open the door for SBW who will also be a mature influence and leader, by example on the field.

If his 2012 was going to be anything like his 2011 then most people on here would have been calling for his head by round 6. Yes he was brilliant at the end of the year but so were JWH, Mose (albeit in short spurts), and Tasi. If Kennedy can come back next year and perform as well as or better than Ryles did late last year our forward pack will not have lost anything. And the club will have gained the ability to resign both Tasi and JWH to long term contracts, which is far better than Ryles for one more.
Although Ryles improved on his conceding of penalties late in the year I've always though it would be interesting to see aggregate metres gained/loss which included metres given up by players that give penalties away (metres lost being what the opposition gains on their kick for touch). I think that would show a forward's true overall worth.

Sad to see him go, but it makes sense!
Good news for Evans, he will be in FG next year it seems

Just so you know, i'm just as pissed as anyone about this decision, I just like to look at the positives.
Smith/Noyce etc seem to be putting alot of faith in Kennedy here, now to see if it pays off.

I'm not the happiest about losing Ryles...but:
8. Kennedy
9. Friend
10. Hargreaves
11. Guerra
12. Aubusson
13. Cordner
14. Mitchell
15. Takairangi
16. Tasi
17. Masoe
Still a bloody ripper of a forward back. Back row does lack a bit of experience admittedly, but the props have ridiculous potential. Throw in Kane Evans and Josh Ailomai as the reserve props (both with massive frames and dominant playing styles in the U20s), and Symonds, Bosden, Arona and Cherrington as the reserve backrowers, and we have plenty of pack depth.

Mack, I think you'll find FPN will be Smith's first choice lock next year.
R6, you're right mate. Just re-read my post and don't really know what I was thinking. I along with most people think Ryles was our best forward (excluding Friend) for the second half of the season. But I still agree with the decision. In a way whether Ryles stays around for another season does affect whether JWH and Evans stays for 2013. Foremost it gives Evans a lot more games in first grade this year which allows us to test him before re-signing him. I also believe JWH is a starting prop now and I think if Ryles was to play well again next year and push for a further extension into 2013 that would be too long waiting in the wings for Jared.
