  • I don't mind this signing.

I like that we are starting to make the right calls on players. We ditched Carnage and Myles who were the last vestiges of the 09 idiots, we waived Graham and Linnett who were solid but unecessary.

We have signed solid young talent and given other youngsters a couple of years of games to learn to lead the pack.

Mini and Banasta still prepare professionally and turn up most weeks

We have let Ryles go, despite his desires which I think reflects that you cannot afford to have the man who gave away the 12th most penalties in the NRL this year as the most mature leader of your forward pack.

We have signed Morts who is a cleanskin with the hunger to create some competitive tension in our playmaking roles and as a backup

All of these decisions make it look as though we are starting to make the right calls and as though the cleanup and rebirth is taking effect.

I look forward to watching the results unfold on the field

    • I have faith he will succeed. This may well be a Craig Wing style signing. He was relatively unheralded when he signed back in 2000 and showed what he was capable even with the coach we had.

The same may well apply to Daniel Mortimer.

            • Said in an interview he was happy to take a pay cut so at least we are paying much it seems!

                • Let's face it - Mortimer is less of a risk than Carney, and a darn sight cheaper by the sounds of it.

I mean what had Carney actually achieved before coming to the Roosters apart from bad hair foils, even worse tatoos, a drinking problem and a list of court appearances?? And we got one good season out of him. Yes, the kid had talent at Canbera, but his achievements on field were not spectacular.

We improved Carney, albeit it only temporarily (but that's his fault). We can improve Mortimer.

                  • And he fuilfills the most important criteria, just as Mitchell did.

He came here for a jumper and a game of footy.

                    • He is your perfect Smith signing.

Much like Tony Smith, Graeme Bradley, Chris Quinn, Jeff Hardy etc.

                      • I have no problem with a Team of workmanlike players at our generally showmanlike Club

                        • And I would like Morts and Smith to both see out Smiths contract

The old "Boiler suits versus Dinner suits" line which fits.

It wasn't so long ago that Parramatta and the Bullcheats were desparately fighting for his signature.

                              • Think you have covered most of it. Look at who is out (exception Ryles). They are trying to change the mentality in the joint. Linnet and Graham are salary cap casualties. For all my criticism of Mini and Anasta, I concede that they are both good clubmen and should help our maturing team.
With Mortimer there are potentially upsides and very few negatives. You may find that Smith may switch Anasta to the forwards in the second half of games that will provide an attacking option later in the match and another forward rotation without using a reserve as such (1 res for 2 changes). Honestly, I don't know Mortimer or his strengths and weaknesses but he would appear to be able to introduce some diversity that needs a bit more attacking flair.

BTW do we still have Justin Carney?
