Chance would be a fine thing. Isn't he on 'leave' whilst the Parra Board investigate his dodgy dealings, not to mention a bullying case bought by a Parra employee. For a supposed 'christian soul' he certainly seems to have a few skeletons in his closet (and to be honest I don't want to know what else).

The decision on Mortimer would have been made by Ray Spagnolo(?) in Osborne's absence.

Surely you can see there was plenty of emotion behind the Dogs willingness to get him.

        • Potentially stupid question: Is he playing 5/8 or will they finally move Pearce to where he belongs, the six.

True. But it was more than that. Along with Hayne and Fui Fui, he was one of the driving forces in Parramatta's late year charge to the GF. The dogs were desparate for a half at that point and he was the best on the market at that time.

Not a stupid question John but rather a distinct possibility. My preference would be Morts in his better suited half-back role and
Jnr Jnr wearing the #6 guernsey. This would allow Pearce the opportunity to better utilise his great passing game & run the ball more
when the opportunity presents. He needs to have the defence secong guessing.....he was so predictable in 2011 especially when Carney was out. Pearce's kicking game at five-eight would also improve considerably.

              • I would think he will play off the bench with Pearce 7 and Anasta 6. When he comes on I think he will do a bit of dummy-half work, pushing Anasta into the forwards and Friend second off the ruck for a period in the game. As well as playing second receiver also..

Surely if Mortimer is in the 17, it will be at the expense of Anthony Mitchell..

He should play 5/8. He was never and will never be a halfback IMO.
Only time i can see him playing halfback is if Pearce gets picked for origin.

Agreed on all counts there PtB. Mitchell must think Mortimer's arrival a bitter sweet proposition.

                      Lone,

Another good thing about Mortimers arrival is the apparent competition for spots. Players need to step up and perform otherwise
there's someone capable & willing to replace them.

I just hope Smith has the balls to drop players for poor form in 2012 regardless of reputations!!!

Considering that all through his junior career he played at 5/8th and even in 20's played at 6 with Keating at 7, I think you will find his experience at 7 is limited to the few times he played there for Parra.

                        • Good point Gman about the competition for spots. Let's hope that competition extends to Anasta as well and that as you say, coach has the balls to drop any player.

I may be out on a limb here but I have never thought Jnr Jnr could organise a proverbial in an Artarmon establishment of ill-repute but he does have mad running and passing skills. If Daniel takes after uncle Steve, we could be in luck.
