The last 12 years this milking and diving culture has crept into our game... so much so it is now trained and taught as a strategy to win games.. the only way they will ever discourage it is if the refs penalise it imo.. if not that how can we stop this shit from ruining the once “toughest game of all”?

I think most of them are pretty damn obvious.. how can a professional footballer fall down from someone touching their shoulder? It’s common sense.

Also, what's milking? I remember when my ex-wife got arrested for trying to kill me, a few cops accused me of milking it (based on a video I shot where I was telling her not to punch me and not to follow me around the house [because she was going bananas + bashing me and I didn't want her to follow me... but I used a really soft, calm voice rather than crying...etc because I was used to bottling up my pain and hiding it]). I mention this because footy players are big dudes and it's easy to assume that since they're not crying or grimacing, they're 'milking it'.
With diving in soccer it's easier to tell a 'milk' because merely touching somebody near the goals provides a free kick from in front of the goals. Thus, people who clearly haven't been touched but go flying before dramatically raising their arms to claim a penalty are easy to spot without victim shaming. The NRL's different because it's a contact sport and lying down after contact to 'waste time' or 'milk a penalty' is frowned upon. FWIW Raiders and Souffs fans both accused us of doing this during recent games. Did we? I dunno! When I played footy, lotsa odd things could make me feel like I might be injured. For example if I landed awkwardly and pulled a ligament or something then I would often struggle to my feet before jogging it out (making people assume it had never hurt). IMO 99% of the time when footy players stay down, they're cautious of being injured. Also if a penalty is called then even if you 'milked it', the person being penalised has to have broken the rules for it to be called.
IMO it's dangerous ground if you're gonna send off a guy who's hurt because you reckon he milked it (particularly when somebody has done something to them that is worthy of a penalty... regardless of how soft it may seem).Last edited by ism22; 09-21-2019, 07:41 AM.
