  • Mortimer's Tweet

Daniel Mortimer tweeted this after signing with us.

"To the Roosters fans, I look forward to giving everything I have to your club and your team. Exciting times ahead"

That's all I need to hear.

I invoke the Captain Miller rule.

great first impression of this guy, If he gives his all to this club im sure he will do well. i still believe he wasn't used right at parra and was used as a scapegoat. I think he will lift to prove people wrong.

      Welcome Morts!

Good on him! I'm sure he has a big point to prove and he's just the sort of player that Smith coaches well.

Yes. Young, cleanskin, hard-working, dedicated, country boy. So has the right personal attributes that Smith likes and he is good at teaching footy skills and knowledge to young players. He will also fit into Smith's prefered style of playing with the second-phase plays etc. I think Mortimer will fit in well with the style of football the team played in the last 6 games of the year. Strong forward play with good second phase play - similar to the way Parramatta played in 2009. Only difference is we need a Jarryd Hayne style player too!

Embrace his signing. No amount of pissing and moaning will reverse the decision.

I'd be more worried if I were a Sharks supporter.

Last two Eels reserve graders Smith bought (before Mitchell) were Zaia and Faaoso for the Knights. They had played one game of NRL between them in the previous two years and at the time were rated below where Morts would be now. They both absolutely killed it for the Knights under Smithy. Incidentally he also acquired Junior Sau around the same time from the Raiders for $10K; 18 months later he was playing for NZ.

Our current coach's ability to improve players is one of the main reason I'm a fan. Havings said that, I do suspect that Morts is primarily a depth/utility signing.

Great news, sometimes a player just does not fit a list

Really? I'd support us regardless of who the coach was or whatever his tactics were.
Sure, you got to have some ability to scout some players, but...to be fair...so do the players.
Not saying Mortimer doesn't though, but im kind of doubting it at the moment.

Better than last years off season signing M.Riddell

it has to be remembered that riddel was a last minute signing with no one else available... the original idea was to have anthony watts and before he threw it all away everyone thought it was a good signing
