  • Possible Mortimer gesture

For all of you with a good memory.

I think uncle steve could donate one of his air hockey tables to the new roosters gym.

Uncle Steve has never shyed away from taking pot shots at the Roosters in the past.
Must be killing him to know he will see his nephew wearing red white and blue next year ........ guess he'll know what it was like for George Piggins ?

Times have changed! I miss the days of loyalty, when players had to have a day job. A Minichello will most likley be the last one club man!

Fair warning to the Roosters board, if you get rid of Sam Perret, you get rid of a lot of us.

I think you will find most clubs will keep a long term player , prefably one club player on their roster... if for no other reason its a marketing tool

Not a bad idea about the air hockey table.

The players will need something to occupy their time when we miss the 8 again next season.

I hate to say it but i think Sams short term career, ls in the hands of Moga Henry Leilua Taguive, He may prove to be Mini's replacement. Pezz is solid!

Not me - Sam is a great bloke and loyal servant, but he is not a that great of a player. He is average in attack (mainly because of his lack of speed and lack of ability in the air) and he is pretty diabolical in defence (usually lets his man get on the outside and then doesn't have the speed to cover him).

Some of the youngsters coming through will prove to be much better. I could be wrong but I guess time will tell.

For some reason a lot of people still don't rate Perrett's strongest skill of taking the ball from dummy half, deep in our own territory. Early go ahead is invaluable in the game and can mean the difference between kicking from the 30 and kicking from halfway. SKD is also quite good at this but it is no mistake our forwards had a tough time getting out of our own 'red zone' with Sam injured last season.

He's also regarded by oppositon players as one of the harder players to bring down in a tackle. The harder to tackle, the more energy used to bring a player down, meaning wearing out the defence. That must count for something in Perrett's belt of tools ?

Rooster Booster and Holmes are on the money with their summations of Perrett. No, he's not the quickest winger, nor is he great in the air, but his ability to beat a man in tight around the rucks with a step and some strength and the speed of his play the ball is invaluable. The tone of a defensive set is set in the first couple of tackles. You have no early go forward, no speed in the play the ball and the defending team can defend off the front foot and swarm all over you meaning you are kicking from 20 or 30 out from your own line. Perrett's ability out of dummy half can not be questioned and he will normally guarantee that the player taking the hit upi following his play the ball will pick up a cheap 10m because of the speed of his play the ball.

I actually think he's not too bad under the high ball I can think of a few tries scored from taking high bombs, I mean yes there is definately better wingers out there under the high ball but perret definately isn't hopeless under it

Alot of people underestimate Sammy under the high ball, i think people are recalling one or 2 games in 2009 and tarring his whole career.

We saw the effect on the team when Sam was out injured this year, everyone was pleading for his return, the return of his calm, his strength his attitude.

He is one of only a few players who will go the extra mile for this club both on and off the field, one only needs to look to the melbourne game in 2010 in melbourne......man of the match performance, looked great on the field, what many people may not have know was during that week, his youngest son was born......with a major heart condition....he left his wife and son in the hospital in sydney to go to Melbourne and play for the Roosters because he didn't want to let the team down.

He flew back to sydney on the first flight to be with his family.

This sort of commitment is what is needed from our players, you put this in war terms.......Sam Perrett is someone you want in your platoon, someone you want in the trenches next to you ! you know he will not let you down !

I would be happy to see sam moved from wing to fullback and have the (C) put next to his name !
