  • Roosters Retrospective

Based on the fact that this current Roosters team has staked an undeniable claim for the team of the decade and Cooper Cronk, albeit a new but HUGELY influential player is about to draw the Curtin on a truely amazing career, Chookpen Members have been open to a bit of reflection on just how good this group and the organisational structure that supports them is. So I am going to indulge myself in some reflection.

    1970s Halcyon Days
set the benchmark for most Of the 50 yo plus members with the
    72 R/up
    74 and 75 premiers
    77 lost a prelim

1980s Started well but ended badly
    80 R/up
81 minor premiers but out in two
    82 flogged in the prelim
87 lost a prelim - revenge coming this Sunday
This started a sequence of 8 years without a finals berth - true Gen X Roosters fans born in this era

1990s basically shit until Nick got Gus
horror show of 1990 (my local councillor was Fullback at Bruce Stadium when the Faiders flogged us)
1992 another horror show - Freeman and Salvo had us on track for finals until the debacle at Penrith
96 finally in a final again thanks to Gus and Freddie
    97 Prelim nightmare
    98 definately a Prelim nightmare

2000s Here we Go a new dawn
2000 first GF in 20 years
2002 PREMIERS the drought breaker SOOOOOO GOOOD to win thanks Freddie and Ricky
2003 R/up why the **** Todd Byrne couldn’t step inside and send the **** head Sattler into the awnings
2004 R/up even ****in worse we should have won

    2010s Even better
2010 the surprise GF but unfortunately flogged (maybe BMoz can repay us)
    2013 PREMIERS a magnificent win
2014 a prelim loss to the vermin
2015 a prelim loss to the drongos
2017 a prelim loss to the cowgirls
2018 PREMIERS in a dominant performance
    2019 ???????????
We have been blessed in these last 10 years. The vision of Nick to save this club from Ron Jones in 1990 when we reached our nadir and who slowly but surely built one of the most professional and successful NRL franchise going around is truely worth celebrating.

THIS WEEK MY BROTHERS IS SOMETHING TRUELY SPECIAL TO SOAK UP AND ENJOY AS YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN IT WILL COME AROUND AGAIN.
GO EASTS, GO EASTS , GO EASTS

Yep, great thread. I started following the club in 1972, so grew up thinking we'd pretty much win the comp every year. There were some tough times, but the last couple of decades have been a credit to good management and we're privileged to have such a club to support.

Good listen on Roosters Radio this week with the interview with Nick Politis. Whilst most clubs are jealous of the depth of players that we have, the thing they are most jealous of is that we have Nick and they don't

ive tried had to be a good supporter chookpen member went to borth finals, but now as an aging pensioner i just cant afford $150 a ticket to the grand final! something smells only single seats available during member purchase time, have they grossly underestimated roosters fans numbers or is this just another profit grab from the nrl?

Nice Post, I remember, I remember 2002/3/4 thinking a lost opportunity to win 3 straight but we have a real shot this time.
My first memory following the Chooks was the 1980 GF loss to the Bulldogs. We had moved up from Melbourne and my AFL team Collingwood was playing in the GF at the same time. I remember switching the channel between the two games. Both teams lost
