  • could we finally be changing our recruitment strategy

I wonder if we are finally changing our ways after years of wasting cash on overhyped stars from other clubs.

on the back of this major cleanout we have had this offseason with the likes of :

    Myles
    Carney
    Ryles
    Conn
    Graham
    Ford
    Blair
    Linnett

all leaving our top 25 squad,

and they are either being replaced from within or by promising junior signings/second tier players from other clubs, rather than big money flops from other clubs.

not sure if it is true or not but i'm hearing from a source i've got at another NRL club that we will not be having SBW on our roster in 2012.

A recruitment and retention strategy of signing youngsters and second tier players is one doomed to fail.. You need quality experienced players for these guys to play alongside otherwise you can forget about any success.. Look at the sides that have won premierships over the years and you will find they would have at least half a dozen quality experienced players.. We don't so do not get too excited.

Been happening for a while, the club have stated most of their signings will be fringe first graders and youngsters.

It's a great way to build a squad and build a club but takes time and realistically we're only a couple years in. I don't expect much for another few years.

Agree completely. Youth policies sound great in theory, but without experience, leadership ect. young players generally have stunned levels of development and obviously won't produce with any consistency. This is one of the main reasons I was critical of letting Ryles go.

That being said, this strategy shits all over the old one.

Melbourne have done pretty well in recent times using a similar policy. They recruited their superstars young and developed them alongside players like Orford, Matt Geyer, Scott Hill and the like, players not too disimilar in ability to the likes of Anasta, Mini, Pearce and Perrett. Once Smith, Cronk, Inglis and Slater developed they were then able to top up with fringe or younger players with great success. As stated by Rooster_6, this is a long-term strategy but one thats designed to produce long-term results.

Excuse me for being naive but wasn't it also POS that lead that recruitment charge? People around here give him ALOT of guff.

Mini, Perrett and Anasta ABSOLUTELY are good role models and could develop young kids along with recently retired players like Fitzy and long retired but didn't know it yet ones like Piggy Riddell.

Probably time has erased the memory that the 1999 team had guys like Glenn Lazarus, Stephen Kearney etc... then they cheated the salary cap massively so again a bad example.

Mini and Anasta sadly are passed it so are holding the team back. We need experience on the park but players who are near their peak. I agree Perrett is a good example of the type of player we need but we need some more experience in the pack.

Anasta still basalt to offer, he was under the hardest circumstances of anyone in the squad last year. People on TCP just love to hate on him.

Mini however, one of the most frustrating players to watch in years.

Maybe if we also go over the salary cap by 25% we will end up with something better than the slowest and most inept backline in the competition.

Arsenal or the Galacticos. I know which one I prefer.
