  • Hastings named #7 for England

Ex player but son of a Roosters legend... pretty big endorsement being named for England IMO given he struggled to get a run in the NRL (largely due to attitude problems - ironed out now maybe?) Be interesting to see how he goes.

Apparently his gran'a from England. Quietly hoping he does an alright job as it's be good for the international game.

      He has talent.

But at absolute best he is a bog average bench utility with really questionable temprament.

If his name was Jackson Smith he'd get less coverage than Lachlan Lewis and no one here would give a fark.

As the son of Horrie, he deserves more respect than that.

I think ex_Rooster articles are always of interest. Congratulations to young Jackson. I must say that while some doubted his attitude, I doubted his ability. I still do to be honest. But he has done well in Super League and hopefully he can one day succeed in Australia. I don' think that will be with the Roosters though.

Didn’t he win the Man of Steel this year too?

i personally feel it says more about the england comp then hastings ability. he is ordinary, and his attitude sucks or it did.

IMO Hastings too slow and incapable of creating space on his outside by attracting defenders. Not NRL standard.

So he won the 7 jersey over George Williams. I was interested to see George Williams run around to see if he would make Canberra stronger.

                      You're kidding.

He just took Salford from 2nd division to first division. Then in their first year back in the top grade took them to a grand final and was named best player in the competition. Then he was named the new halfback for England.

He's getting the coverage that type of achievement deserves, arguably not enough if anything.

I've seen Jackson play about half a dozen full games and he was sensational. Very creative in attack, pinpoint kicking game and rock solid defender-at times even inspirational.

I just don't get how Aussies like him,Blake Austin,Lachlan Coote and previously Chris Heighington get selected to play for Great Britain because of a grandparents place of birth. These guys are only available because they weren't considered good enough to make rep teams in Australia. Ask any of them at the start of their careers who would they choose to play for if given the chance between the Kangaroos and the GB Lions we all know what the answer would be. Its actually demeaning to the GB jersey and even more so for the "authentic" GB players who make way for the Aussies. The grandparent/parent rule should only serve to bolster Tonga,Samoa,Fiji etc etc

Aussies have been guilty of it too. Meninga selecting Radradra for that test match was ridiculous. James Tamou played his first junior footy in NZ before joining the Roosters- he's a Kiwi.

Yep agreed - You earn your own respect your father can’t do it for you but Horrie doesn’t deserve to have to read crap about his son after his son has just had the best year of his career. Yep he was ordinary when with us and manly - looks like he has sorted his shit out and playing to the ability many good judges said he had now - well done to him I say and I’m sure his old man is proud of that and happy as a result.

Interesting points RR. On the one hand international rugby league loses credibility if you have players playing for countries with only a slight connection to that country; on the other it needs all the help it can get in order to make games competitive.
