So if they give souths salary cap relief, would that mean you could just offer inflated amounts for all older players, then medically retire them, and then not have the payout included in your cap?.
in effect, you could pay more for older players, but not have to include the total amount in your cap.

But then it's easy to pay someone a back-ended contract, have them cheap while playing, and pay them a big amount when you

RR - All clubs do a medical when they sign or re-sign players. If the medical shows an existing area of injury then no pay out if they're forced to retire i.e damaged goods.
However in Burgarse's situation, Turkey Neck Richo is adamant his shoulder injury which has forced him to retire was a fresh injury sustained this year.
Go figure!

To stop back ended contract rorting the included amount in the salary cap and any subsequent payout should be calculated as the average or even highest instalment of the contracts worth and not just the lesser first or second year amount when player retires.

In order to control "retirements of convenience" if a player returns to the game, the players contract or salary cap worth on retirement is reintroduced to the club when re-signing making the arrangement incredibly prohibitive.
A retirement of convenience might be something like Sam Burgess retiring due to a pre existing injury allowing Souths to sign David Fafita, before Sam makes miracle recovery and re signs in 12 months time for unders. That's just a hypothetical of course.

Naturally, Easts players would be exempt from such regulations..

I think Sam should be allowed his contract money & that Souths shouldnt have to include it in their cap so that way they can buy Fifita & Latrell. lol
